Stu Segall's DRIVE-IN MASSACRE (1977) is coming to U.S. DVD & Blu later this year from Severin Films.

The title was originally verified by a screening at their recent 10th Anniversary part in Los Angeles.

And further verified by a throwaway line in today's Rue Morgue article:

Co-writer / actor John Goff was at Severin's screening and participated in a Q&A, so I imagine that'll be on the disc.

This justly-forgotten flick is all downhill after the admittedly memorable opening sequence, but it's hard to resist a signed copy! I placed a bundle order with the second volume of Kung-Fu Trailers of Fury for $39.50 shipped. The latter would likely have been $2 cheaper at DD during one of their sales, but I don't mind paying an additional two clams to get it right away (do Severin ship pre-orders early, like other labels?), especially when the first volume was such a blast. I would have loved a big-box VHS replica of the original art (pictured in the link above), as they've done with a few other releases.

Curious about this film, from the description it sounds like it would be fun. Is it a straight up slasher affair? What are some slashers you would compare it to?

I just ordered Drive-In Massacre by using a 20% coupon at Barnes & Noble.

Barnes & Noble seems like a rather quaint place to purchase such cinematic savagery, but the price was right.

This just came in the mail today and I can't wait to watch it. I might wait until my order from the Arrow sale arrives (which should be any day now) to pair it with Driller Killer, like this old DVD I kept putting off picking up:

They were both blind buys, but I've heard a lot of good buzz (and bad buzz too, tbh) over the years. I'm stoked to finally be able to judge them for myself. I hear they're both grimy and venture into WTF territory, which has my curiosity piqued. The fact that Drive-In Massacre is also a proto-slasher also has me very intrigued.

I'll try to report back when I finally give it a spin!

The ending of this movie f*cked me up big time. Wow. I felt cheated for a second, then I realized it was actually one of the greatest horror endings of all time. If only I had seen this at an actual drive-in for the first time. Man, that had to be a hair-raising experience!

I regret never giving it a spin on that random DVD I had back in the day.

This movie was like 5 minutes slasher film and the rest of the running time was like a buddy cop/detective movie. I found it amusing. Seemed like it was trying to ape The Town that Dreaded Sundown.
