Sounds interesting enough. We really liked the first one, mostly liied the second one, but HATED the most recent one(Dawn Treader). So, bring on a new installment and if its good Ill add it to the pile and just forget the Dawn Treader exists.

Restarting the franchise cold with new ownership and no contracted talent means that they'll have to find new actors (even Will Poulter as Eustace, who's supposed to be the hero in this one, is way too old by this point) and--let's hope--new writers.
We have two names to our pain: Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely. The screenwriters who had been hired to "save" Prince Caspian by taking the non-story in the book and inserting big-budget Hollywood tropes, and to be absolutely blunt, the book needed it....But when they tried to do the EXACT same thing to Voyage of the Dawn Treader, which didn't need it, that's when they became the parties responsible for sinking the franchise almost singlehandedly. (Oh, there was a little help from the disastrous box-office "Weekend of Death" December release date, but that's not what we remember when we watch the disk...) We might get new writers, or they might feel they have to go back and get "the originals"; whether this new one will be good or bad, we will all know from there. The franchise has changed hands from the Walden Group, so we might get a last minute change for different "cheaper" writers, and any change will be an improvement. Silver Chair's probably the second most fan-favorite book behind Dawn Treader, but the 80's BBC version made so many disastrous misinterpretations off the original text, I can already picture what Markus & McFeely might've been planning if Walden/Fox had given them the chance. ![]() Last edited by EricJ; 10-01-2013 at 06:20 PM. |

And I imagine the main characters of LWW will look completely age appropriate if they do "Horse and His Boy" and they're there as grown up queens and king. |

![]() (Actually, according to his IMDB photo, he does, just not enough to get by.) The other character, Jill, wasn't introduced in VoDT, although she's referred to offscreen--So they've at least got that avenue to start fresh. Quote:
To get twentysomething Anna Popplewell and Georgie Henley back as Queens Susan and Lucy. But, then the Dawn Treader guys went and ruined everything. ![]() |

Yeah, I've heard will Poulter has sprouted like a beanstalk, but we should all know that height doesn't matter on film. They could make him appear shorter or just explain it away by him being a growing adolescent. And as far as the original kids, I would say they are aging nicely and it wouldn't be a problem if they brought them back, although I don't think they will until the Last Battle.
I am psyched about this because I know the series was put on hold because each movie made progressively less money and strayed farther from the books each time, so I think they are making sure they get someone who knows how to do it right. I also wonder if they are going to get Tilda Swinton to play the Green Witch. I know the book doesn't quite say the two are the same, but Charn is the "Underworld," so I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be the same person. If they don't I call for Charlize Theron! ![]() Last edited by Falaskan; 10-02-2013 at 02:40 AM. |

I'm insanely excited over this news. I love the books and thought the first two films were magnificent (they're actually my top two live-action Disney films of all time). I liked the third for what it was, but it was a huge difference in quality for a number of reasons (a lack of conviction in the direction, a re-write on an already-existing screenplay that dumbed it down and made strange choices, a cheaper visual aesthetic thanks to the HD camera used).
The Silver Chair's my second favorite book in the series after The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, so even if the budget is more comparable to Voyage of the Dawn Treader (which I'm sure it will be, if not cheaper), I'm still hoping it will match the quality of the first two. If they can bring back director Andrew Adamson and writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, I'll know for sure it's in good hands. At the moment, I still remain happy we're even getting another Narnia film as I had already accepted in my mind that we would only ever have what I call "the Lucy Trilogy" in cinematic form. Hopefully they can get Liam Neeson and Will Poulter back. For those who think Poulter will be too old, he's 20 now, and they never say what age Eustace is in the Dawn Treader film, nor do they ever have to in future installments, so he could still pass for high school (casting 20-somethings as teens certainly isn't unheard of in Hollywood). Just make him and Jill 17/18. |

Agree. The last thing I saw starring Will Poulter was We're the Millers, much like DiCaprio did years ago (and many others), this guy could still play a 14-15 year old without losing credibility. Also, it's interesting to have him on bord, since his popularity is going up and people start to notice his natural talent, finally.
