Default X360 Blu-ray drive possibility?

MS once did say this was a possibility at one time.

I for one would pair an external BD-Rom player with my 360 as that is the console in the video game room (the PS3 is in the Home Theater room )

i doubt it. they wouldn't want it to compete with their HD Download services.

It wouldn't compete anymore than an HDDVD drive has.

They are selling a 'service'. Blu-ray is a 'product'. Big difference that includes two types of customers.

I think it is more likely that the next generation of the XBOX will have a Blu-ray drive now.

I'm sure they supported HD DVD to prolong the format war so they could win with HD Downloads which is doomed to fail. Microsoft makes some bad decisions.

I used to work closely with Microsoft on their hardware peripherals side and yes from my experience there, they make some horrid decisions. However, they can keep making those decisions because their Windows platform will forever be able to fund all of their failures.

yes it is a possiablity hdi is more cpu intensive then bd counter part of bd-j (playing a hd dvd utilizees 98% of all 3 cores of teh 360) the 360 will have an add on and it will sell asome

I thought it was already said that the 360 was incapable of handling the Blu-ray specs bandwidth for video?

Hard to say.

When the support for the add-on came, they were bragging that AVC support pushed the Xbox 360 to its limits. Clearly that implies that handling BD spec AVC would be tough.

Unless a new motherboard fixes the problem, the Xbox 360 Elite wasn't capable of HD audio. The bandwidth to the HDMI transmitter was insufficient.

IF MS wanted to, they could have Blu running on 360 very very quickly

All they have to do is swap a few parts in the drive, and rumor has it MS already has the playback soft ready to go.

Again, that is rumor, but given MS's patterns, I find it very likely that they would spend the small amount of money to be prepared

Two things:

BD-J running on an Xbox 360
BD+ certification

Java is open source, getting a version running on 360 would be simple
Certification yes would take a bit of time, but again, it's not a difficult prospect for them to accomplish

For one thing there could very well be a market for the use of that HD DVD test software they built for HD DVD if it were adapted to blu
