I am having a hard time choosing one. Good arguments can be made for all of them.
If Ridley could stay focused, and I feel he lost the plot and tried to please too many people with Covenant, he had an idea of where he wanted to go. I think the critique of Prometheus stung him a lot. |

I know they're terrible movies, but I would like a well made AvP3. At least finish the trilogy.

I'll just reiterate what I said in another thread:
Quote:
The idea of a soft-reboot set WAY into the future, so it takes place in the same universe as Alien 1-4 and Prometheus/Covenant but has no real attachment to them whatsoever, is also fine. But I'd rather let Ridley Scott try to finish what he started before we resort to the soft reboot. |

As a fan, I voted: Let Ridley Finish His Prequels
From a sensible standpoint, I'd have chosen: Let It Rest For Awhile, Then Reboot: Canon Acknowledged Last edited by Cremildo; 01-04-2018 at 01:27 PM. |

Another Scott prequel will not make any money, and will kill the franchise.
I think a soft reboot like Blomkamp's "Alien 5 / Aliens 2" that ignores everything else, and picks up after the second film, could be a hit. A good "Chewie, we're home" trailer would get butts in seats. That gets my vote. So c'mon Di$ney, nostalgia sells, you know it to be true. ![]() |

Let Sir Ridley do his thing. But let him do what he wants to do, not what a bunch of loudmouthed fanboys and irritating suits want to do.
Then, when that's done, wait a bit and start with something fresh. You'd have to acknowledge the canonical work, though. It could be a tenuous acknowledgment, but it needs to be there somehow. |

I voted The First Two Were The Only Good Films Anyway, Let The Franchise End but I think the expression should be the first THREE not the first TWO.
Honestly, however, 2 & 3 are so much worse than 1 (still pretty good though) that they don't even really need to exist. Alien is a a classic example of a movie that was very good and should have been left alone, rather than having a franchise grafted to it. |

For real though, I've been very forgiving of every Alien film up until the last one. Chances are I might warm up to Covenant, but the first two and Prometheus are the only ones that truly wow me. Don't mind seeing more in any form (even another AvP one), but if the franchise just ended it wouldn't hurt my feelings either.

Tough one. Alien may have been Ridleys baby, but he was only a piece of the puzzle. He alone can not be trusted, which is why he has hired idiotic screenwriters for the last two movies.
Ridleys version of creative control is "get me a script and a budget and i'll make the damn thing". No thought was put into the script for AC. Completely disregarding Prometheus and even the Original. Having said that, they have their moments and if Ridley can get a good screenwriter on board and really focus on making the Alien / David a compelling threat, then he should be allowed to shoot another movie. He is a magician of a filmmakers but has completely lost the plot when it comes to Alien. If not, then make a movie based on Alien Isolation. That game was perfect. Like Creed, its a sequel/spinoff/reboot that honours the original in every single way. Get Alex Garland to direct it too. Last edited by don3663; 01-04-2018 at 05:57 PM. |
