Because of all the confusing and ever-changing directions on where you should redeem your 4K disk digital codes to and the results of what you get, I decided to do a quick inventory of my library, and keep in mind my library consists of brand new purchased 4K disks with digital codes. Also, I can't comment on I Tunes because I don't have any Apple products, and the retailers I have been using is Vudu and Movies Anywhere and some Fandango Now when everything else failed. When comparing the various studios, this is what I found...
26 4K movies from Warner Brothers and all 26 port to Vudu at UHD. 24 4K movies from Universal, 17 of them port to Vudu at UHD. 15 4K movies from Sony, 2 of them port to Vudu at UHD. 10 4K movies from 20th Century Fox, and NONE port to Vudu at UHD. 8 4K movies from Paramount, and only 2 port to Vudu at UHD. 22 4K movies from Lionsgate, only 1 ports to Vudu at UHD. I know a lot of people sell or trade their digital codes but I don't, and I have been trying to use Vudu as where I "keep" my movies. Just the figures I have compiled show some significant shortcomings. It seems obvious some studios put a higher priority on digital codes than others. If I didn't have such a significant investment in audio and video now, and the fact that I have purchased well over 120 4K titles this year, if I could have possibly known how bad some studios treat the end consumer (me), I would have never obligated this kind of money into this industry that seems to be so dysfunctional. It makes me understand why so many people are stealing movies instead of buying them. I never imagined it would be this disjointed with procedures ever changing, where you get locked into an entity who cares less whether you are satisfied or not, and the only option is if you don't like it quit using it. There was one thing that my small review indicated, and that is Warner Brothers and Universal stand out from the others, especially Warner Brothers. I opened a ticket with WB and thought it was a scam when they responded in less than an hour and resolved my issue. Wow! If there is a 50% chance there will be issues when trying to digitally redeem your purchased movie, that only shows the process is broken. |
