Default Looking for confirmation on how subtitles were implemented.

I purchased the US release of this and was very disappointed to see where the subtitles were positioned for the non-English speaking parts. See below.

I have a CIH (Constant Image Height) front projector setup that uses an anamorphic lens. As a result, I lose any subtitles outside the frame once moving my anamorphic lens into place and performing the vertical stretch. See below.

Unfortunately the subtitles on the US release are burnt in, otherwise I'd re-author the Blu-ray re-positioning the subtitles fully within the frame (BDSup2Sub). Of course I could use the zoom method and just leave enough screen real estate for the subtitles, but sadly don't have the throw.

That being said, if anyone purchases this I'd love hear if the subtitles are positioned fully within the frame and if not, if they're perhaps not burnt in. Thanks in advance.

The subtitles on this release are not burnt in.

There are 4 subtitle options. 2 in German, 2 in English (full film or just foreign language parts). Subtitles are white and one line is in the image, one in the black bar.

Beautiful. Since they're not burnt I'll be able to roll my own moving the subtitles fully within the frame. Thanks for the confirmation! Adding this release to my Amazon.de basket now. I tried adding it to my cart, but couldn't find one. I guess this basket will do. :-P

Just beware: unfortunately the alternate ending cannot be played with the film. It is only present as an extra (in inferior quality).

And the subtiles are not listed. You have to switch to the right ones. Number 3 is english for the whole film, number 4 is english for foreign parts.

Roger that. Sounds good and thanks for confirmation on the specific subtitle track to look for. I'll be breaking that one out and moving the subtitles fully within the frame in addition to ensuring it's enabled by default.

Default The messenger must be silenced.

I finally got my copy of this along with "The 4400: The Fourth Season" and thought I'd post some pics. Very nice packaging though I'd enjoy the booklet more if I could read German. For those that can read this just click on the given thumbnail to view the full size image. Enjoy!

Default Mission successful. Forced sub are now fully within the frame.

Thanks again for confirmation that the subs weren't burnt in. It was sweet to finally replace the US release I had purchased. I re-authored the German release this evening moving all subs fully within the frame (...they had been positioned the same as the US release) in addition to setting the English forced subs to be on by default. End result shown below.

US release, burnt forced subs straddling the bottom of the frame.

US release, vertical stretch with a-lens (horizontal stretch) in place. Doh!

German release re-authored, subs moved fully within the frame, a-lens in place.

Now that's more like it. Much better.
