Awesome - and a whole bunch of irony as well since somebody over in the latest and greatest "3d sucks and is failing" topic was using China as an "already failed market" for grounds to stand on.

Hahahaaa -

Back to 2012, I won't go to the theater to see this if it releases nationwide in the US, damn sure will buy the 3dBR though

Cool. I didn't read the entire article, but it sounded like they are hoping for the same success, or near to, as TITANIC. If that's true they might be reaching too high. TITANIC is a highly loved movie by many many people. I don't think 2012 has near to that kind of love.

Nevertheless, 2012 could be fun to watch in 3D. Thanks for the post.

No problem, just wish I could fix that bloody title...how embarrasment.

On another note I am really looking forward to this one and Independence Day, both done by the same director, so there may be something to that.

The great thing about 2012 was the fact the movie didn't hold back like I was guessing it might, as Armageddon did. With a title like Armageddon, you'd think, "Okay, so this is a post apocalyptic movie then, or the end of the world, right?" Wrong. They should have called that one Meteor (similar to "Deep Impact") or something else, but don't suggest the end of the world in the title, and then not even deliver it.

2012 on the other hand, was Armageddon, in that nowhere was safe as the world fell apart into ruin and few survived. Good movie for that reason.

If the conversion is along the lines of the 3D in Titanic 3D, I'd buy it. The only problem is, they should have timed this better, as 2012 is almost over.

"I don't like the phrase '3D conversion', " Cui said during the conference, adding that any good and responsible 3D post production is more than just converting a movie. "I keep saying it is actually a matter of 3D visual recreation. Such a project should be taken on as if you were making an entirely new film," he said.
Somebody get this man a medal.

The more I have thought about this, the more excited I get.

Yes, that's the right way to approach adding 3D to a 2D film.

"The conversion has been released exclusively for the Chinese audience and could be the start of more Hollywood conversions if successful says the distributor.

Thanks to strong support from the Government, China offers huge lucrative opportunities for foreign 3D movies which has spurred increased use of conversion for back catalogue and new 3D movies. Columbia Pictures re-released '2012' after the huge success of Titanic.

Digital 3D screens in China now number 6500, and is expected to exceed 10,000 by the end of the year. It is currently the largest 3D movie market outside the United States. A new study by Ernst & Young predicts that the Chinese box office will surpass the North American box office by the year 2020 with China's media and entertainment industry expected to grow at an annual rate of 17% in the five years leading to 2015."

The Chinese are going Bananas for IMAX and 3D.Since most of their Multiplexes have only been built quite recently they're mostly Top-Notch tech-wise.

The fact is the Chinese only agreed to raise the quota for Hollywood productions if they're gonna be released as either IMAX or 3D movies,so that alone ensures plenty of 3D productions in the future.

Interesting, 2912 is the sort of film that could benefit from 3D but as always depends how good a conversion they make it.

China's definitely not a failed market for 3-D yet.

And how is "Flying Swords of Dragon Gate" the first 3D martial arts movie ever as I read it is???

I definitely KNOW years ago, actually decades ago, I have seen the 3D martial arts movie "Dynasty".

Thanks for that info. Good to hear 3D is received well. I was watching a documentary about one of the largest malls in China, and it was a ghost town, hardly any patrons back then. Hopefully it has changed, as the mall had a roller coaster, movies and lots of stores to buy stuff indoors, and try on clothes instead of ordering them online, an advantage of a mall.

I wouldn't mind, but that is a funny request, considering the end of 2012 the movie.

I hope this does well so we can get it on blu ray 3D here soon. John Cusack did a great job as the lead. Lots of chaos as an apocalypse movie should be, unlike Armageddon with Bruce Willis.

So does anyone think this Friday will be the end of the world, December 21, 2012? Highly unlikely prediction I'd say (as with the year 2000).

2912 is meant to be 2012 as already mentioned, but I think to get the title of the thread changed, some kind of alert has to be given to the owner of the forum, as there are no email forms to send feedback to, and I think moderation of the 3D forum is limited, as I've never seen a moderator post other than for review links.

UPDATE: It's been updated, cool! 2012 now instead of 2912, which was 900 years off the mark.

END OF THE WORLD?
Oh yeah, today's Saturday, so officially those who claimed December 21, 2012 was the beginning of the end of the world, need to set a new date, and then build up to that for the next round...
