Default Robert DeNiro 2000-2017. What movies to watch?

For me , he is best actor ever.

I don't know what happened to him,but in 2000's he was mostly in bad movies.

Yes,he was in early 2000's in his 60's,but still...

My question is:
What movies from 2000's are worth watching?
I only see Silver Lining Playbook and Red Lights. And he was decent in both.

Any recommandations?

The Good Shepherd above all.

Meet the Parents, American Hustle (cameo), and The Wizard of Lies are all worth watching too. The Intern is also a nice little movie with De Niro doing something other than his usual tough guy shtick.

I thought he was remarkable in Silver Linings Playbook but you've already seen that.

He’s excellent in Joy, though I’m not too big of a fan of that film. He’s a scene stealer in Stardust. He’s really good in Everybody's Fine, giving the same type of performance he did in The Intern.

I sympathize with your post. He’s also my favorite actor ever. But... he’s also nearly 3/4 of a century old. There’s not a lot of great roles for old people unless a younger actor gets accused of certain abuse. It’s Hollywood’s fault they’re not giving in great roles and it’s clear he still loves acting. He’s absolutely rich from his hotels and restaurants. He doesn’t have to still continue; he wants to. Regardless, he’s done many accomplishments throughout his career and has helped out so many actors jumpstart their careers. He doesn’t owe us anything.

Yeah his quality in script picking has massively gone down for some reason like with Pacino. I always wished they retired in the 2000s instead. Frankly I would say his last balls out go for it performance was Cape Fear back in '91 even though he had a few masterpieces after that as well. Anyway, off the top of my head, Silver Linings Playbook is a great one and the hilarious mob comedies Analyze This and Analyze That (even though Analyze This was in '99). Also like already mentioned 15 Minutes and The Family are really good too.

Meet the Parents
The Intern
The Family

It’s a shame Righteous Kill was a letdown.

The Intern was a genuine surprise. Really enjoyed that movie. Also The Family is a lot of fun. And of course the Meet the Parents movies, especially the first one.

Ronin was his last great performance. The Score with Brando and Ed Norton was excellent as well. City by the Sea with James Franco playing his troubled kid was pretty good (not on BD). The Family was good. I am betting that his long overdue reunion with Scorsese & Pesci - The Irishman will be a modern masterpiece. Scorsese working with DeNiro again brings me total joy. My favorite Director and Actor.

So I must have thought it was good at the time. However, when I think about the film now, and I havent seen it since I watched the dvd when I first got it, I think it is one of those terrible films that never should see the light of day again. Like Copland level bad. Maybe I am misremembering it or have equated it with something else.

Or at least take a hiatus and only come out if there’s a performance worth it, like what Jack Nicholson’s doing after he realized how low he got with How Do You Know.

I enjoyed him a lot in The Intern. He actually pulled off being a very sensible, caring and positive individual.

Considering the number of tough guy roles he's done, it was a refreshing change that he did well.
