Talking "The Glades" Official Discussion Thread

Click the above photo to watch the trailer
Series Premiere Sunday, July 11 10/9C
Quote:
Jim Longworth is an attractive, brilliant, yet hard to get along with homicide detective from Chicago who gets shot by his captain after being wrongfully accused of sleeping with his wife, and then forced into exile. Longworth relocates to the sleepy, middle of nowhere town of Palm Glade, Florida, where the sunshine and golf are plentiful and crime is seemingly at a minimum. Only this town outside the Florida Everglades isn’t quite as idyllic as he thought, as he finds people keep turning up murdered. Each case pulls Longworth off the golf course and reluctantly into his element as one of the sharpest homicide detectives to wear a badge.

Between practicing his short game, trying to get a date with Callie - a quick-witted, beautiful medical student with a 12 year-old son and a husband in prison - and trying to solve countless homicide cases, Longworth’s transition to his new surroundings is a bit more difficult than expected. He’s realizing the skies in this new town are always sunny...with a chance of homicide.

Haven't gotten the chance to read it yet, but this sure is a weird move, releasing the pilot script 3 weeks before the show even premieres.

In an unusual move, A&E have provided the script for the Pilot episode of The Glades to be downloaded/viewed before the Pilot airs. You can read the script here.

Well I enjoyed the premiere last night and apparently even though none of you seemed to have watched it, Over 5 million others like me did.

A&E’s Series Premiere Of ‘The Glades’ Is Most Watched Original Drama Series Telecast In Network History
Quote:
NEW YORK, NY – July 12, 2010 – A&E Network’s series premiere of the new original scripted drama series, “The Glades” on Sunday, July 11th at 10PM garnered a record-breaking 3.6 million viewers, becoming the most-watched original drama series telecast in network history, according to Nielsen Fast Nationals.

Garnering critical praise prior to its launch, “The Glades” also delivered a record 1.4 million viewers in the key 25-54 demographic, as well as 1.2 million viewers 18-49. Combined with the encore airing, “The Glades” was watched by a total of 5.1 million viewers for the premiere night of the series. The premiere episode also grew by 38% from its lead-in.

“We are very encouraged by the response that ‘The Glades’ has received from the press and our viewers,” said Bob DeBitetto, President & General Manager of A&E and BIO Channel. “The fact that the series was able to break through in a crowded summer landscape against heavy competition is a testament to the quality of the show and the incredible talent and performance of the show’s lead Matt Passmore.”

“The Glades,” a character driven police procedural set in the fictional town of Palm Glade, Florida, stars Australian actor Matt Passmore (“McLeod’s Daughters,” “Underbelly”), Kiele Sanchez (“Lost,” “Samantha Who?”), Carlos Gómez (“Shark,” “Sleeper Cell”) and Michelle Hurd (“Law & Order SVU,” “Gossip Girl”).

New episodes of “The Glades” air every Sunday at 10PM ET/PT on A&E.

“The Glades” is produced by Fox Television Studios for A&E Network. The series executive producer is Clifton Campbell (“White Collar,” “Profiler,” “21 Jump Street”) for Innuendo Productions and Gary Randall (“Saving Grace”) for Grand Productions, Inc. The series creator is Clifton Campbell.

I have really been enjoying this show. Passmore is a great leading man, and Kiele Sanchez is just gorgeous. This is easily my favorite new show of the summer and with it's ratings I would imagine it should get an easy renewal.

Another very entertaining episode with an all-star guest list. First up I've got to mention how cool it was to see this episode "A Perfect Storm" directed by the great Timothy Busfield.

Secondly, one of the greatest tv character actors there is, Garrett Dillahunt, though I wish he could have been used in a more pivotal role down the line. Though I would say the reason he showed up for tonight's episode was simply a favor considering his wife Michelle Hurd plays Manus, Jim's boss.

Not to mention Clayne Crawford is revealed to be Callie's ex, I hope he will play a much bigger role down the road.

And last but not least, Evelyn the older lady that Carlos befriended in the hospital was the legendary Katherine Helmond who most including myself remember most as Mona from Who's the Boss.

I am really enjoying this show and based on it's ratings I would say it'll be around for awhile. I find Passmore and Sanchez to have incredible chemistry onscreen together and look forward to the development of their relationship.

Watching the second episode now. He just talked to surfer girl and she wants to be protected, I guess.

So far a cool show.

I think aside from the main guy, my fave characters are the kid and the intern. lol

Yeah I know man, that was some awesome stunt casting. This show is really developing nicely and is the perfect summer drama. Really surprised that based on it's ratings there aren't more folks joining in on the discussion or checking the show out.

Yeah she's the romantic interest of the lead.

BTW, on a Kiele related note the red band trailer just hit the web for the 30 Days vampire sequel that she stars in. I just bumped the thread to the top of the movies. Go check it out, you get Kiele and Diora Baird.

This is a pretty darn good cop show. I have my Tivo set for the whole season and look forward to the rest. I think the main girl is hot and she is a good reason to watch but i also like the character of Jim he is very funny.

At first I didn't know If I'd be able to buy Matt Passmore in such a light comedic cop kind of role having just watched him on Underbelly where he was anything but.......Though he proved right away he is all talent and never made me question him again. His american accent is flawless too. Some Aussie's no matter how long they use an american accent just never quite get it and the Aussie often sneaks back in, like Sarah from Chuck she has atleast one slip up every episode, but she's cute so I let it fly.

I hadn't thought of Chris Vance since his very short lived show Mental was canceled last summer after like 4 episodes. Only ever saw him before that on the occasional episode of Prison Break when I was forced into watching that. But I really see no resemblance between Chris and Matt. I mean besides the fact that like the Japanese South Park characters say, all white people look alike.

Besides the obvious all white people look alike, I mean.

BTW: Mental had a 13 episode season I believe. And it had a proper ending to it, which was kind of cool to be honest.

[Show spoiler]He ended up causing so much friction between himself and the a-hole boss that kept trying to get him fired and blackmail others to snitch on him, that it came down to the boss getting the board members to retract all funding which meant that her section would be disband if she didn't fire Vance.

She refused to do it on principle, plus because he was good at what he did. So when the boss guy came in acting like a smarmy shit, Vance just flat out smashed him in the face, turned around and is like "am I fired?"

And it pissed her off but she was like "I have no choice"

It ended with him getting ready to backpack through Europe or some shit.
It was actually kinda cool how it all played out.

Btw, as a white man sir, I am appalled and offended by your statement, somebody call..............oh right we don't have one of those for us.....nevermind.....

My tv must have hated that show or something than cause after 4 episodes it stopped recording so i assumed it had been canceled.
