I remember when this came out, a forgettable remake. I might get it if it is cheap enough.

It at least has a Michael Caine appearance... that is before Carter does what Carter does.

Ugh, I have a love/hate relationship with this movie. IMO, this is one of Sly's best characters. It's great seeing him play such a ruthless bad guy that we're supposed to root for. The only other movie where he's done a character similar to this is Bullet to the Head (another wasted opportunity).

However, it's too simple a plot, the music sucks, both fights between Sly and Rourke are just one beating up the other, and worse of all, (to me) THIS is the movie that started the modern day "shaky-cam, quick cuts, close-ups fast paced realism" action style that doesn't look like it's ever gonna go away.

This remake gets a lot of hate. Whatever. Its my favorite non-Rocky, non-Rambo Stallone movie. His version of Jack Carter is a fu**ing badass.

I just went ahead and pre ordered it with the original. I can't really remember it, Stallone's career slumped between Cop Land and Rocky.

I knew this would be out the same day as the original. I'll get both.

If it wasn't saddled with that title, I think it'd be more fondly remembered.

Based on what little I remember about it, it manages to waste Mickey Rourke, which is one of the seven deadly cinematic sins.

Plus, it turns the character of Carter into, well, something of a pussywillow. I can't say for sure, but I suspect this might've been a Stallone contribution to the script -- something about giving Carter a "character arc":

[Show spoiler]After all of the build up and to-do about getting revenge, he doesn't even bother at the end.

The original film is the antithesis of this: Carter doesn't spend a lot of time anguishing about the problem; he just wipes out those who've wronged him and whoever else gets in his way.

80's Stallone would've
[Show spoiler]killed Rourke via glowstick stabbed into his eye. Then as we see Carter walk away in slow motion, with everyone clearing away from him, we'd see said glowstick "emptying out" into Rourke's head, lol.

I've always really liked this film. It also has a surprisingly good soundtrack. Will definitely pick this one up.

It should carry over the extras from the DVD, Warner has been pretty good about doing that. So if that's the case, expect the following:

Audio commentary with director Stephen Kay
Six deleted scenes:
- Droopers
- I Thought You Were 17
- Let Me Take You Out
- The Long Walk
- Mo' Cops
- Original Ending
- Where You Going?
Theatrical trailer
Bonus international trailer for "Get Carter (1971)"
Cast and crew biographies
