Saw this on IGN - was surprised since I didn't even know it was going to be movie. Should be awesome. Even though I do wonder how much of the stuff (reference wise) they can really get into the movie. That must be a rights nightmare. I guess the fact that we see stuff from Lord of the Rings, Back to the Future, Iron Giant, and Nightmare on Elm Street in the trailer is a good start though.

Looks good so far.. I finished reading the book a second time a few months back and it's soo much fun. Especially if you know the 80's, I would start to read something and I would say to myself , oh that's ...
The premise is very basic , a Steve Jobs type guy dies (creator of Oasis) and leaves everything to the first person who can figure out the clues and find keys within Oasis to its whereabouts. Oasis is obviously a virtual world, but it's beyond that of your typical social meeting ground, school is even taught from within it. I've been following this production closely for awhile now and they have said things have been altered a bit in the transition to the big screen. Several of the 80's references within the book won't make it in, mainly because paying the royalties for every single one would be HUGE. I guess at the moment its just sitting back and waiting. |

With post conversions of 2D to 3D, while it takes longer to convert each frame instead of just filming the live action in 3D, you're right that they can layer the 3D to whatever strength the shot composition may call for and depending on the $ budget allowed for the conversion. It saves filmmakers a lot of trial and error on the set if they were just learning to film in 3D, and time on the set is where things cost a lot. I still wish filmmakers were more open to filming in 3D, but I have been impressed by many 3D conversions, and sometimes, filmed 3D movies opt for mild filmed 3D, as with Dawn of Planet of the Apes 3D.

Question now is, do these filmmakers have the discipline to shoot for 3D or do they expect a miracle everytime? Some photography technique just isn't suitable for 3D. Close ups, quick cuts and shaky cameras can result in a nauseating experience. Why some films like Gravity was so well received in 3D, despite it being a conversion was because a lot of planning went into the shots. Wide angles, long tracking shots, few cuts allows the viewers to absorb everything on screen. I remember watching Civil War in IMAX 3D, and I had to take off my glasses in the opening action sequences, because of all that shaky cameras and quick cut editing left me very dizzy. But they are fine in 2D. Steven Spielberg and his cinematographer, Janusz Kaminski rarely does 3D, but their photography and Michael Kahn's editing has always been top class, and they're working with ILM again, quite easily the best Visual Effects house around, so I believe Ready Player One will be good. |

On sheer potential alone, this one could easily steal 2018. Spielberg hasn't brought his old sci-fi/ adventure magic out to play in quite some time; if he brings it here and really works the 3-D, I for one will be in geek heaven. The novel is great fun. Absolutely love this latest trailer! The one thing on my wish list for Santa this year...a flying DeLorean!
