Default Batpussy (1973)

I decided to give myself an early Christmas present last night, so I popped on Agfa's Batpussy. Good lord. This is the most baffling film I've ever seen. I can only define what it *isn't* not what it actually is. It isn't porn. It isn't comedy. It isn't satire. It's like ordinary people pretending to make a movie and making it all up as they go along. I can't imagine what audiences were supposed to think about this. Was it something they put on when they wanted to clear the house and shut down early?

It reminded me a lot of the scenes between David Lochary and Mink Stole in Pink Flamingos. I wonder whose idea it was to have the couple bicker like that constantly. If their middle aged paunches and bizarre hairdo isn't enough to put you off, the constant arguing certainly will. It appears that the whole thing was shot in the service bay of an empty gas station. I'm betting Batpussy's lair and the couple's bedroom are at 180 degree angles to each other, so they just turned the camera around to shoot the next bit. I can't believe the director talking over the actors. Most of the time he was blanked out on the soundtrack, stretches of complete silence. But at the end, they got tired of cutting him out and you can hear him clearly. The actors talk under their breath to each other too. "Shove me off... off! off! Shove me off!" My favorite part is where there's a blank part of sound cut off for the director's direction and the lead actor whips around and looks at the camera and says, "Huh? What did you say?" No titles. Just an abrupt cut in at the head and a thump and it stops at the end. What a remarkable film.

I haven't watched the extras yet, but based on the main features, I'll need to brace myself and have a few drinks before I dive back in. It is what it is I guess!

By the way, the bouncing ball music is from Neil Hefti's LP of Batman music. It works better here than in the real Batman TV show.

One of my all time favorite movies ever. It's as if John Waters went and grabbed a trailer park cast (like Giuseppe Andrews), to direct an 'adult' version of 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf' only after being too heavily influenced by repeated listens of 'Shut Up Little Man'.

For a second, I thought this was the title for the new Batgirl movie. Whoops.

This is a masterpiece. I want to know what happened to the cast.

This may become a holiday tradition, just like Rudolph and Peanuts Christmas!

That girl's hair reminded me of Audrey Jr in Little Shop of Horrors

This movie is clearly on the list of worst movies ever made. Someone should develop such a list. There have been so many bad movies made... I wonder what the worst would be?

I have not seen this yet, but it sounds awesomely entertaining.

As to lists of worst movies ever made, there have been many, many such lists made.

I've seen many of the movies cited as the worst... Rat Fink A Boo Boo, Lemon Grove Kids Vs The Monster, Curse of Bigfoot, The Creeping Terror, Terror of Tiny Town, Harlem on the Prairie, The Nasty Rabbit, Poor Pretty Eddie, Just For the Hell of It, The Gruesome Twosome, Little Red Riding Hood, Santa Claus, Puss in Boots, Skidoo, Bad Girls Go To Hell, etc. And I can state unequivocally that Batpussy is the worst movie I've ever seen. It's technically inept. It is creatively bereft of any redeeming value. The acting is non-existent. It is bafflingly annoying to watch. It's morally repugnant. I can't imagine this film having any audience at all except the "so bad it's good" crowd. In fact, Batpussy is so excruciatingly awful, it's hard to believe that anyone ever made it, and that they spent money to strike a print of it. I think it probably *is* the worst.

I enjoyed it.

I actually like Rat Fink and Boo Boo and Lemon Grove Kids Meet The Monsters. I would proudly buy blu-rays of both of these movies.

The site review for Batpussy scored a 0.5 out of 5 haha. I can't remember reading a review with such a low score on here though I'm sure one exists. And apparently Batpussy is banned from Amazon! That just makes me want to watch this even more. My copy should arrive later this week and is going straight to the top of my watch pile!
