I'm sure I read it here in this Forum or on this Website (!) I read that at last Vincent Price's or to be correct Andre De Toth's House of Wax was to be released in the UK in 3D Blu Ray!!??

I was delighted to read this as it'd be on my list of favourite movies and a pleasant break/change from the usual modern mass market blockbusters that we're all used to!

There's no release date yet, but Amazon UK has a placeholder for it.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/House-Wax-Bl.../dp/B006LMINDM

I may be wrong, but I think the following is the only confirmation that we have so far.

Quote:
The good news is that George reports that WHV has some 40-50 catalog titles planned for release on Blu-ray in 2012 alone. By the way, George also told us that he's been quietly working on converting House of Wax and Dial M for Murder for true Blu-ray 3D release probably in 2013! As you may know, both of these films were released in 3D theatrically back in the day via a version of the polarized process.

Dick Dinman recently conducted an interview w/ Warner Home Video Senior Vice President George Feltenstein about the Warner Archive Collection - - - and at the end, the discussion turns to 3D Blu-Ray classic releases.

George says "it looks really, really good" for a 2012 release of both House Of Wax and Dial M For Murder (maybe in time for Halloween?).

You'll find the talk at this link - - -
http://www.wmpg.org/archivefiles/dvdclassics.htm

- - - - and then scroll down to the podcast "INSIDE THE WALLS OF THE WARNER ARCHIVE". The 3D talk kicks up at around the 23:00 mark.

They also discuss Kiss Me Kate, The French Line, Bounty Hunter & the catalog of classic 3D films at Warner. Really fun to hear.

Here is a direct link to the mp3 interview:

Ah, so they DO remember The French Line! (Even if he just gave it as an "arcane" studio/genre example):

George also remembered Bugs Bunny in Lumberjack-Rabbit and Popeye in The Ace of Space!
And as for hoping for one of those to symbolically show up with Wax or Dial M, I quote: "You betcha". And I'd rather hear that from Feltenstein than from Sarah Palin.

(Dinman jokes "I'm not buying 3D until we get (the classics)!", and according to the Golden Age 3D expert on HTF, that's a very real problem in the industry right now:
"It's a chicken and egg situation", unquote; most movie buffs don't want to buy 3D for Avatar, they want to buy it for watching the classics as intended, but until they do, that's keeping the market as too niche for studios to DO the classics, unless it's a labor of love for the individual execs.)

I hope it's true. I can't wait for "House of Wax" and "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" along with it's sequel among some other movies to be released on Blu-Ray 3D.

Mostly the 1950's and 1960's 3D films, along with some of the 1980's 3D films.

Just a bit of trivia, but in the extras of Hugo, Martin Scorcese revealed he has an original print of House Of Wax in 3D. He treated all the production team to a viewing at a private cinema.

If any execs read this, consider a copy sold with me

Classics like this would be AWESOME to have on BR3D, restored and to their full potential. There's a gang of old 3D movies it seems would be simple enough to take the original left and right prints, sharpen them up, then slap them on a 3dBR disc and release to the public.

I started a topic here about a system I read for converting anaglyph movies to full color side by side 3d, or restoring old 3d films to side by side after gaining interest in some restores I saw on youtube. Didn't go very far but I'm still reading and looking to start doing some of this for myself.

I'm really looking forward to older 3D movies, especially the 80's movies where it was such a huge gimmick it would cause your eyes to start bleeding. The pop-out in Tron at the club when Kevin Flynn's disc was taken with that grapple was amazing, popped right out of my cellphone, can't wait to see movies like: Friday the 13th Part 3 in real 3D

Although House of Wax I once saw in anaglyphic 3D, very impressive, especially because it used it very subtle, with that one exception really

Jolly good news, this is easily one of the best classic 3-D movies from the 50s!

Hope they can also do a 3-D blu of Kiss Me Kate.

Just so we're clear:
House of Wax and Dial M are Warner. Hence the interview with Feltenstein.
Creature, etc., are from Universal, and whether Universal continues to show any remote interest in Golden or Silver Age (80's) 3-D after Jaws, even the wisest can't see from here.

Watch this space, and judge hopes accordingly.

Cool House of Wax 3D (1953) October 1 Pre-order

Buried in Warner's press release for Dial M for Murder and Strangers on a Train, they mention that House of Wax will be the next title in line after Dial M to get the 3D Blu-ra treatment!

Quote:
“Given the current trend toward 3D, we’re delighted to be releasing this authentic classic 3D. This is not a conversion from 2D to 3D, but an original work, with a big tip of the cap to MPI, that illustrates just how good 3D can be. The Warner library has the largest number of classic 3D titles (15) of any studio and over the years we’ve been looking to release them, but not until now has the technology been perfected to the point we can do that. We’re hoping Dial M for Murder is the first of several classic 3D films to be released, with the long-awaited, much requested “House of Wax” expected next.”

This is the one that I've been waiting for!! Hope they do it justice!
It also has a great multi-channel soundtrack, as do several of the '50s 3D movies.

Even though the movie might seem a bit dated by today's standards, one thing's for sure....the 3D will put to shame the 3D in several modern movies. I still think that there is too much shallow 3D in too many new films....Journey 2 and Underwolrd:Awakening are even guilty of this (although admittedly there are moments where the 3D is amped up and looks great). In modern movies though, the movies tend to have a small parallax throughout until the action scenes start. House of Wax has full 3D throughout the movie....something that I wish today's studios would adopt.

USA House of Wax (1953) 3D

From The Digital Bits:

Quote:
Comic-Con update: Warner officially doing House of Wax on BD3D. 4K scan and remaster of original 3-strip elements.
George Feltenstein of Warner Bros:

Quote:
The original negative of House of Wax was damaged in the lab and the emulsion was stripped off the original,” he said. “We have to go back into separation and scan them. It’s like doing six movies. All that is being scanned at 4K. My colleagues are writing a very big check, and you all are going to have House of Wax in 3D and it's going to look like a Viewmaster.
