My favorite martial arts movie is Enter The Dragon. Often imitated but never surpassed. However. The Kentucky Fried Movie did a great parody.

![]() ![]() Undisputed 3: Redemption (2010) - Not old enough to call it a classic (yet) but when it comes to modern martial arts movies it doesn't get better than this. ![]() Plan B: Scheiß auf Plan A (2016) - German hyper martial arts comedy, picked up for distribution by 20th Century Fox who did some rather aggressive viral promotion prior to its theatrical release. It was still a flop, but it is not a bad movie. A throwback to 1980s action movies starring German cult stunt actor Can Aydin, and in a minor role Mike Möller. The fights are flawless but kind of tiresome because they tend to go on forever. No blu-ray release so far, only a DVD from Sweden (I think) without English subtitles. |

Seven Samurai and One-Armed Swordsman are classics. Lady Snowblood is a rare example of a badass female lead from the 70's. Kill Bill lifted heavily from it. I would recommend BuyBust for anyone who enjoyed The Raid and is looking for something similar.

The Night Comes for us is just brutal. The Raid films are some of my favorite action films of all time. I haven't seen the third Donnie Yen Ip Man but the first two were great. Ong Bak is excellent and the sequels are decent. Chocolate I thought was really awesome, I have some old bootleg DVD I imported from Korea years ago, I should probably buy the bluray now. Ninja II is plain stupid but a top notch martial arts flick. I personally can't get into the Undisputed films. Part 4 I thought was atrocious, outside of the piss poor acting, terrible writing (I'm pretty sure Boyka is said more than any other word in the film), the action scenes are shot like an amateur. They are actually very well choreographed and Scott Adkins is great in all the fights but I just cringed the whole time. I actually enjoyed Man of Tai Chi quite a bit and I don't see that mentioned too often for modern films. |
