Anybody placed any orders with them recently? I'b be interested in knowing your impressions. Items condition, packaging for more fragile items, etc...
Thanks in advance!

Not recently, but have been a customer for close to a decade and they have never failed to impress me. I've had delicate hardcover books and digipak items arrive in pristine condition - my large orders were generally double-boxed (i.e. a smaller box inside a larger box with a styrofoam peanut buffer). I couldn't be sure if this packaging continues into more recent times, but if so, you'd have little to worry about. Their international postage is (or at least, WAS) flat rate, so didn't matter if if 1 product or 100, shipping charge was the same. Again, I couldn't be sure if this continues to be the case today. I also never had any problem with customer service, they always seemed to bend over backwards to help out.

Been dealing with them for about 12 months -- super great service, packaging and product. These guys are da bomb in my book - buy with confidence.

Been a customer with them off and on for 8 years and counting. Mostly movies but also CDs and vinyl from time to time. Never had any issues.

Everything media related I can order from them, I do. They are reachable, personal and treat the media with respect and care. They package even single items in a grande way. Sadly they don´t have any exclusives and only very few steelbooks. But they are great with CD/Vinyl Sets and regular BDs. Try to buy less and less from amazon.de, only if I really have no other choice regarding their exclusive releases I still do...

How long do they take to deliver to the U.K.? Can’t find any info on the site. Anyone had to pay import tax with them since brexit ? My first order with them

Thanks

I've bought a lot from them and only had one bad experience. I ordered a large batch of sale CDs and I was charged for them, but the order arrived split into several shipments and half the order was missing. I let them know, but they didn't even know how many packages it had been sent out in. They made me wait forever to see if the lost packages arrived, and by the time they admitted they were lost, they went to ship the missing items and most of them were out of stock. They refunded the difference but it really didn't make me happy. Their shipping charges can be very high to the US, so I try to order in a large batch all at once. Cheaper that way. I probably wouldn't have ordered at all of I knew they wouldn't have been able to fulfill the whole order.

But that was the only sour note. I've ordered a dozen other times with no problems.

The price you see is the price you pay. Never paid any extra duty and they are fast too.

Assume they take about a week to the U.K.?

Yeah about that. Certainly no longer than 2 weeks for anything I ordered before or after brexit.

I am trying to order some blu-rays from JPC.de but on checkout I am getting the following error:

Quote:
Fehler in der Rechnungsadresse:
Country : Die Lieferung von Artikeln ohne Jugendfreigabe ist nur innerhalb Deutschlands möglich
Per Google translate:

Quote:
Error in the billing address:
Country: The delivery of articles without youth approval is only possible within Germany
What the Kentucky Fried F*ck is this horsesh*t? Age verification? Never seen this before from any dvd vendor before. I can't find anything in their help pages about it either.

No "adult" films in my cart.

How the heck do I get past it?

You don't, AFAIK. This has been in effect since the first lockdown. Dealers in Germany have to do age verification upon delivery for certain (all?) 18+ titles, which is usually done through the postie if I understand it correctly. To reduce direct contact upon mail delivery, jpc now only send these titles to pick-up spots within Germany where verification can take place. Obviously those places don't exist outside Germany, so they don't send those articles at all. No idea why they apply it globally, it's a german law. At first I thought it was a simple logical error, but it's been in effect for 18 months.

Oh for f*ck's sake. Apparently bureaucratic governmental idiocy is not strictly within the purview of the U.S. Morons... sigh.

EDIT: Weird. It wasn't any of the titles in my cart that I expected to be the problem (Terminator 2 4K + 3D steelbook or Running Man 4K Media Book). Instead it was a cheapo German 3D autoconversion (AE - Apocalypse Earth 3D). Once I removed that blu-ray from my cart, the order went through. Go figure.

I don't think, jpc not shipping FSK18 titles internationally, is lockdown related. I think they never did (just like other shops). Simply because of the age verification.

The only thing that changed with Covid is that DeutschePost/DHL won't deliver it directly to you anymore, but only to the next post office instead (but that affects only Germany anyway).

AFAIK.

Packaging especially for steelbooks is POOR!
They only ship steelbooks in tiny cardboard envelope.
On last occasion i had my cardboard envelope more than 2x size of steelbook and it was PURE luck that steelbook wasn't damaged.
There is literaly ZERO protection - padding. So if you'll order something delicate be prepared to play russian roulette.
Had steels come dented like 2 or 3x in last couple months.. That's why i don't order from them lot. And they don't offer tracking.

I'm sure this was true in 2018 when the above was written, but it definitely is not the case now.
You‘re right, during the last few years their handling of single items has become a bit questionable. But it’s also not any worse as for example through amazon or Zavvi. At least I never got a Steelbook shipped from JPC just in a plastic bag, as it’s often currently the case with Zavvi or Amazon, if they ship a single item to you. For Box sets I would still always prefer JPC. Those always are coming in a sturdy postal box with many protection material. Not once I got a box set in a way too large box without any additional protection material, as it’s sadly often the case at least with Amazon.

So JPC has become a bit of a hit or miss. I currently try to clear additional postal costs of 3€, that they charged me wrongly and it’s going on for weeks now. So their Customer Service isn’t also what it used to be. At least with Amazon such things are not a problem, they always refunded me directly. So I‘m also kind of on the fence regarding JPC right now, but at least I will stick with them regarding bigger box set releases, regarding the foreseeable future.

I made one order with them in my life, a few years ago. and I would need to be quite desperate to ever user them again. I had ordered two digipak releases of CDs, and both were two or three discs. They arrived in terrible condition and complained. In my opinion their packaging ways and material was worse than amazon, which says a lot.

Contrarily, I recently used them for a few things that Amazon.de would not mail to me and I had no issues.

I just ordered three Blu-rays from them and they came in a long bubble mailer. Not surprisingly one was destroyed on its way to the USA. Otherwise they seem like a good e-tailer. Is there a trick to getting packaging sturdier than what was basically a long pillow? Maybe if I had ordered a certain number of titles they would use a box?

They're useful when Amazon.de decides not to ship that title to the UK randomly. I've had no issues and everything arrived timely and intact.
