Default Silent DVD/BD external drive?

I have some DVDs which I'm too lazy to upgrade to BD (mostly TV series boxsets) and since I'm in PAL land, I suffer from the speedup.

I discovered a cool feature of VLC Player which allows me to compensate for the 4% speedup and correct the pitch of the audio.

So hooking up my laptop to the TV is easy enough, and I bought a cheap external DVD player online. Everything works except there is a noticeable hum when the disc is spinning.

So does anyone know of a silent external DVD drive (reading only, don't care about noise when writing)? Cheaper the better as its not something I use often.

Or if there is a reasonbly priced external BD drive you can recommend instead, so I can back up stuff to BD (nice to have, not essential)

88mph Have you tried placing a lump of blue tack under each corner of the external player?
