Default Vudu In-Home Disc to Digital (Beta)

I just got an email about a new in-home Disc to Digital service from Vudu that's currently in beta. This is just like their Disc to Digital that they do at Wal-mart, but using your DVD/BD drive. This is great for me since I don't have any WM's around me. CinemaNow also has a similar service, but they don't accept BD's.

http://www.vudu.com/in_home_disc_to_...al_Beta_013113

Pricing:

BD to Digital - $2
DVD to SD Digital - $2
DVD to HD Digital - $5

These are UV compatible where applicable too!

Update: Some are reporting that if you insert a DVD from a Blu-ray/DVD combo it will be recognized as a Blu-ray and thus only cost $2 to upgrade!

My experience is already better with this than the Cinemanow one. I put in my copy of Lawrence of Arabia, which was rejected by CN for not being the right version, but I can acquire the HDX version of the movie with it in Vudu.

I do wonder if this just gives you a Vudu copy, or whether it also gives you a UV copy too.

So far its way better than cinemanow's and flixsters. I like that you can add as many discs as you want and then checkout at the end

This is pretty cool for sure. I just have so much CN credit from the discount codes bought on eBay that titles are REALLY discounted if I can make them work there. Even though CN's stuff is still a headache. I tried logging in on another computer (with BD drive) and it won't believe my login is correct.
Once I'm out of credit, or out of titles, I'll definitely go back to relying on VUDU for D2D. If people are doing deals with people they trust this really simplifies the D2D trade process, too

This is great. Being someone who travels an awful lot, I love UV copies and the flexibility they afford.

I've been going through and adding several titles, and things were going along without much trouble until I tried The Godfather, Part II and Part III. I already have The Godfather from an in-store disc-to-digital, and Vudu is reading the discs for Part II and Part III as being the first film.

Yeah those huge discounts on CN make it really appealing. I wish there was something like that for Vudu.

I wish they allowed us to do this from the PS3 app as I don't have a BD drive on my PC

I just successfully converted 10 Blu-ray titles (I tried about 10 others that weren't disc-to-digital compatible), and as soon as I finished checking out, 9 of the 10 were showing up as UV compatible. Not too shabby. All 9 instantly popped up in my Flixster and CinemaNow accounts (which is important for someone who travels because both the Flixster and CinemaNow apps allow you to download titles to Android and iOS devices for offline play).

It's definitely still in beta judging by the number of discs it doesn't recognize or that it doesn't recognize properly (the above mentioned Godfather Part II and Part III issue, and it read my Blu-ray of Amelie as being a DVD), but I've got to say that it has far more hits than misses. I'm quite impressed by how well it works at this stage and how easy it is.

So it appears they're using GraceNote as their data source.

vudu is by far the best even with flixster and UV ugh i am so glad vudu links in a good 90% i redeem every thing that i can right from VUDU i have vudu player on my iphone all my movies show up very nice

vudu needs to work on abcdef-order to sort your movies and also your count is wrong if stuff is in folders i would rather them not do combo stuff in folders if they want to give you 2 movies do it like each not a bundle got lots to come!!!

Which one was not UV compatible? People should start listing the movies that aren't UV compatible.

Yeah, that's what. I don't want to do the D2D from Walmart because of the stamps they put on the discs. And buying an external BD for this is not something I want to do.

If you guys have a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. Put in that dvd disc into your computer drive to convert and it should only cost 2 dollars for HDX. Vudu will read that DVD as from Blu-ray combo pack.

Can you use non-US discs for this, as long as the title is in the Vudu store?

Right on.

I don't have PCs.

(Well,... I have an old laptop for Video Calibration but it doesn't have a blu ray player in it.)

I really hope they add the ability to do this with PS3.

(Though I'm not sure I should care since it will be movies I own anyway.)

I guess it would be a real benefit for people who rent movies and decide they want to own it... HA HA HA.
