USA Gravity (Alfonso Cuarón) 2D/3D - 2/25/14

Gravity Blu-ray

Gravity 3D Blu-ray

Quote:
GRAVITY, directed by Oscar (R) nominee Alfonso Cuaron, stars Oscar (R) winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in a heart-pounding thriller that pulls you into the infinite and unforgiving realm of deep space. Bullock plays Dr. Ryan Stone, a brilliant medical engineer on her first shuttle mission, with veteran astronaut Matt Kowalsky (Clooney). But on a seemingly routine spacewalk, disaster strikes. The shuttle is destroyed, leaving Stone and Kowalsky completely alone

[Show spoiler]Gravity 3D Blu-ray

Quote:
BULLOCK: There’s a complementary film piece that Jonas (Cuaron) did. I speak to an Inuit on earth, and he went there and shot this absolutely beautiful, complementary piece of loneliness and emptiness on earth, where this man is calling from. It’s so beautiful. I get goose bumps thinking about it, and you’ll hopefully be able to get to see it. The talent is just overwhelming. It’s a beautiful piece that complements what happens in the film, that you’ll get as a little gift, later on.

Collider: Will it be on the DVD?

BULLOCK: I don’t know. Warner Bros. doesn’t consult me.

CUARON: Yeah, it will be on the DVD

DVD is just a matter of semantics. I'm sure it will included on blu-ray as well.

Cool. I just saw the movie, and that short film seems like a great idea given what happens.

This sounds extremely interesting, I can't wait to see Gravity and looks like a perfect companion piece to the upcoming film.

Haven't seen the film yet but I'm worried about home viewing for this film, considering all the reviews I've read said that this film was constructed for the big screen and in 3D and that home viewing may loose something because of how well it plays in the theatre.

Hopefully, I'll see for myself this afternoon.

Well I think every film loses something going from theatre to the home, but I'm not too worried about it. I expect the sound mix to be spectacular

I saw it last night and I'm very concerned about the home viewing experience. The film is an "event" and I dont think it will come even a tiny bit close to the intense thrill ride you experience in theaters. Will have to take advantage of the theatrical run.

I am going to see this today, question is why is this being pushed in 3D so hard? My theater only has 2 2D showtimes per day, WTH!

I think its Cuaron and WB's doing. See it in 3D though. I swore off 3D in 2010, but decided to break it for this and felt it was worth it. The most immersive experience you can have. I'll probably get a 3D blu ray player just for this.

3D tickets cost more, so studios/theaters often like having more 3D shows than 2D shows.

Also, 3D is the director's preferred version for this, and by all accounts it's by far the best way to see the film.

I think the performance and story is good enough for a home viewing, but of course it will not be as thrilling at home. I'm thinking of seeing this a second time, this time in IMAX 3D.

No, no, no. Why are you even looking at 2D showtimes? Haven't you read our posts about this movie? I usually think 3D is a gimmick, but this is one of the rare occasions where 3D is a MUST. Also the bigger the screen, the better.

I agree with you to a point but I'm still buying the Blu-Ray . I don't have a real IMAX theater anywhere near me so I just saw it on the local digital 4K screen. Looked great to me and it's one of the few 3D films I've actually seen in theaters. I can only make so many trips to Chicago for movies/concert a year so doubt I'll see it in 70mm IMAX

I don't think it's being shown in 15/70 Real IMAX.

Oh. Well I guess the benefit of those real IMAX theatres is just that they usually have bigger screens. If I happen to be in St. Louis for a Cardinals game soon I might go see it there.
