Default Inferno (Clouzot) from Flicker Alley in April 18

Inferno Blu-ray

Henri-Georges Clouzot's Inferno Blu-ray Review

Quote:
INFERNO
A film by Serge Bromberg and Ruxandra Medrea

SPECIAL PRICING: BLU-RAY $29.95 (39.95) / DVD $24.95 ($29.95)
One of the great, unfinished works in film history, Inferno, by Henri-Georges Clouzot was an audaciously experimental film with a virtually unlimited budget that was stopped only three weeks into production. Working closely with Clouzot's widow, Inès, Serge Bromberg and Ruxandra Medrea reconstructs Clouzot's original vision, filling and explaining the gaps with new interviews, re-enactments and Clouzot's own notes and storyboards, delivering an in-depth look at the masterpiece that might have been.

Release Date: April 18, 2011
Really Great News!

I was hoping that Park Circus would have released this last year with their DVD, but this is even better.

EDIT: Will this be Flicker Alley's first Blu-ray?! Looks like it...

This will go nicely with Le salaire de la peur and Les diabolique.

Agreed. I'm going to be broke if they start releasing their silents onto BD.

From Amazon.com:

Quote:
In 1964, director Henri-Georges Clouzot (Diabolique, The Raven, The Wages of Fear, The Picasso Mystery) chose Romy Schneider, age 26, and Serge Reggiani, 42, to star in L'enfer (Inferno), an enigmatic and original project with an unlimited budget. Reggiani was to play Marcel Prieur, the manager of a modest hotel in provincial France who becomes possessed by the demons of jealousy. Intended to be a cinematic event upon its release, three weeks after shooting began on Inferno, things took a turn for the worse. The project was stopped, and the images, which were said to be incredible, would remain unseen...until now. Working closely with Clouzot's widow, Inès, Serge Bromberg reconstructs Clouzot's original vision, filling and explaining the gaps with new interviews, re-enactments and Clouzot's own notes and storyboards. Midway between documentary and narrative, Henri-Georges Clouzot's Inferno unveils, for the first time in nearly half a century, these luminous visions. It delivers an in-depth look at the masterpiece that might have been and explores the unnerving parallels between an artist and his work, featuring the original astonishing color expressionism that Clouzot captured on celluloid, a visual exploration of the director s own anxiety. Both the DVD and the Blu-ray versions feature a brand-new HD transfer of the feature film with 5.1 audio and English subtitles in addition to a number of HD special features. "They Saw Inferno" is a 57-minute behind-the scenes featurette and is joined by an nine-minute interview with Director Serge Bromberg. Rounding out the set is an extensive image gallery, featuring rare pictures from the original production.

This is out next week. It can be ordered directly from Flicker Alley (link in the first post) for $10 cheaper than the current Amazon price of $39.95 with free US shipping.

yeah I won't be paying $40 for any bd.
sorry, but that's too much no matter what the title for a single film.
I don't even pay $30 anymore.
those days are long over for me except for maybe the rare import or something.
I usually top out at about $23 these days if I can help it.
I'm way behind on Criterion because of this and I guess I won't be getting this one either.
I'm happy that Flickr Alley is finally releasing blu-rays, but I won't be crashing this party.

I have to agree. At that price I doubt they will sell very many copies. Even Criterions prices are over bloated. I can understand making Bluray transfers is expensive, but they need to focus on selling more copies not just raising the prices. I'm willing to bet they would make more money releasing titles at reasonable prices. As is it most people will wait till it hits the bargain bin or just pass.

yeah unfortunately Flicker Alley titles don't hit the bargain bin.
La Roue has been $39.99 on amazon for over 2 years, and I've NEVER seen it any cheaper.
so don't count on this bd ever going down.
oh well.

I enjoyed the film and would very much like to see it again (must admit I nodded off briefly, but I tend to do that at afternoon/early evening cinema screenings )

But it really is extremely expensive for a Blu-ray disc with - looking at it objectively - imposed subtitles, no lossless audio and fairly limited extras.

This is one case where I may have to resort to buying the UK DVD rather than the Blu-ray.

Remember when I said I would never pay that much for this Blu-ray. Well about that....
I finished watching my copy of Les Diabolique and to make a long story short. I'll be watching this very soon.

You won't regret it. The film is exceptional. Parts of it are pure psychedelia, at least to me reminding about A. Zulawski's early films.
