Default Was Kim Novak One Hit Wonder?

Except Vertigo, I don't remember her from any other all time classic.

Sorta like Carrie Fisher.

She was great in Vertigo, should if been nominated.
But after that, her roles were in b movies.

Anybody know what happened?

I liked her in Vertigo when I first saw it and her performance is quite good, but in subsequent viewings I'm always a bit put off by those eyebrows, especially as Judy.

I don't like her in Vertigo. I do like her in Bell, Book & Candle from that same year (also with Jimmy Stewart). Middle of the Night & Pushover are not terrible.

Kim Novak was in some films that certainly weren't B-movies, such as Of Human Bondage. But nothing "happened." She was a fairly two-dimensional actress who starred in one of the greatest films ever made, across from one of the most adored actors ever, directed by one of the greatest directors who ever lived, in the role of a lifetime. It's just going to be downhill from there for pretty much anyone, amount of talent be damned.

Her acting style fit the role of Madeleine/Judy so perfectly. The stars aligned and now if someone says, "Kim Novak," that's all anyone can think of. She just wasn't a great actress, when all is said and done.

I do like her in Vertigo but I like her in Bell, Book & Candle far more. It fit her talent better, not to mention that she looks better in it.

Carrie Fisher? Shampoo, The Blues Brothers, Under the Rainbow, The Man With One Red Shoe,The Burbs, When Harry Met Sally and some others. That kind of one hit wonder?

I think Vertigo is being re-released to theaters shortly. Not sure but it might be one of the AMC/TCM special screenings.

Her wiki says she withdrew from acting in '66, only doing roles here qnd there. I think she would have been a bigger name if she continued, as she was only 33 at the time.

Quote:
Although still young, Novak withdrew from acting in 1966 at the peak of her career and has only sporadically worked in films since

There was a German screamo band in the early 2000's named "Kill Kim Novak".

Always thought it was a strange name for a band.

Hopefully you don't know where I live but it was shown before Annihilation as coming soon so I'm pretty sure I'm safe. Oh, to add fuel to the fire, it looked awesome on a big digital screen

Bell, Book & Candle is a very fun movie that doesn't try to do too much or be too much and yeah, she's very good in it.

Same with Kiss Me, Stupid. It doesn't come together quite as well as BBC but it's very solid and she's very solid in it.
