Default Brutti, Sporchi e Cattivi (Ugly, Dirty and Bad) - Ettore Scola (1976) - Nov 01, 2016

I figured that the impending US release of the best Commedia all'italiana ever, Ettore Scola's Ugly, Dirty and Bad (1976) should have it's own thread.

Quote:
U.S. label Film Movement has sent is the official domestic trailer for the recent 2K restoration of Italian director Ettore Scola's classic film Ugly, Dirty and Bad (1976), starring Nino Manfredi, Maria Luisa Santella, Francesco Anniballi, and Maria Bosco. The restoration will make its U.S. Blu-ray debut on November 1.

Synopsis: Acclaimed Italian auteur Ettore Scola pairs up with legendary actor Nino Manfredi in this irreverent Cannes-winning grotesque comedy. Giacinto (Manfredi), along with four generations of his sprawling, crooked clan, lives in a cramped, dilapidated home on the outskirts of Rome. When a work accident leaves him blind in one eye, the derelict suddenly finds himself rolling in insurance money. Refusing to share the wealth, Giacinto's relatives concoct several harebrained plots in hopes of wrenching the riches away.

Special Features:

Audio Commentary by Richard Peņa, Director Emeritus, New York Film Festival, and Professor of Film Studies, Columbia University
Production Stills
Illustrated Collector's Booklet with film essay by film scholar Ronald Bergan

This is my favourite black comedy and has had me falling about laughing on the floor since I discovered it over 10 years ago.

Thank you Mr Scola and thank you Film Movement.

I wonder if this is using the same master as the Carlotta blu?

Thanks Pro-B

I suspected as much that this would use the same master as Carlotta. It's the audio commentary that's really selling this to me, as I hope to learn a lot from it.

I'm not going to order it on release day though. I'll wait a bit.

this is confusing as it states clearly "recent restoration" and i bought the Carlotta blu just over 2 years ago....and since you claim they are using the same master?
What source you got this info from?

My copy arrived yesterday. Didn't see the whole thing but listened to the half of the commentary. Picture is really good, very clean but not too scrubbed.
Original Italian trailer in HD with unremovable English subs (unlike the film). Back lists it as region free.

I watched the Blu-ray yesterday and was quite disappointed... The image is very pixelated and it's noticeable right from the beginning with the opening titles. Even at a great distance you can see the letters don't look so sharp. The transfer almost looks like it's interlaced 1080i. It's a shame because I really enjoyed the movie.
