Default Station Eleven - HBO Max original mini-series (starts December 16)

This mini-series is an HBO Max original with 10 episodes and premieres December 16. I searched and didn't find a thread.

Sci-fi, post-apocalypse, post-pandemic (calm down its based on a 2014 book) what's not to love?

The cast includes Mackenzie Davis, Himesh Patel, and Gael Garcia Bernal.

The first three episodes of Station Eleven premiere Dec. 16 on HBO Max, with two episodes releasing each Thursday after that through the Jan. 13 finale. according to The Rolling Stone.

Teaser trailer:

I actually read the source novel around the Christmas holidays from 2019, which was interesting timing with what was right around the corner, but I remember enjoying the book, especially using a traveling theatre troupe as the hook. I'm looking forward to seeing how the adaptation pans out, although I kinda wish they were doing an all-at-once release to binge during the holidays...

I'm really liking this show. They actually improve on the source material from which it comes from. It's wonderfully edited, written and shot. I think the cast is fantastic. Danielle Deadwyler (Miranda) gives a unbelievable performance in the third episode. I won't go into the shows story line for those who know anything about it but I highly recommend it from the first 3 episodes that I've seen.
Just don't expect a action filled virus pandemic/Post Apocalyptic show. It's far from that.

After watching the first 3 episodes, this might be the best show I've seen since "The Leftovers" (Not surprisingly, given the showrunner crossover).

I read the book and sat in awe, as the TV show actually improved on the source material. They wonderfully adapted the material.

Absolutely agree. I hope more people will check it out because it is very good so far.

I enjoyed it and I'm in for the rest of the miniseries. I don't have a frame of reference because I didn't read the book, but I only briefly read that there were too many flashbacks in the TV version - I kind of disagree because I didn't find it hard to follow at all (yet.)

I was quite surprised to see that Paramount Television Studios produced this, must be some kind of sharing agreement with HBO Max for just this series. I'm guessing that's why it is on HBO Max and not on HBO.

I haven't had any issues with the flashback scenes at all or difficulty following the transition when they do. I can see where someone who doesn't want a show where they have to focus on entirely and wants something playing in the background might have problems with it.

Same brah, same.

Seriously though, they've done a really good job of pushing the story forward at the right times. If someone like me can follow it and get attached to the characters without having read the book, then I'm pretty sure most everyone can follow along.

I was hooked after the first episode.

I had a moment when they played Lee Hazlewood's 'Your Sweet Love' during episode 2.
[Show spoiler]The combination of grown up Kirsten's stage performance with the flashback of her devastating news as a child was incredibly moving!

I like the show but am i suppose to care about Clark, Arthur and the lady tha wrote the book? While the early days of the pandemic are interesting I want more thru the eyes of Jeaven with the girl if they gonna keep showing me that stuff.

Most interesting to me is the traveling troupe and the prophet.

My god, I've never had a show move me like that and give me that moment. The song is so chilling and haunting. I've never heard that song in particular, but I've listened to a lot of songs similar to it from that era.

I downloaded it on iTunes and I can't stop listening to it.

I've been waiting for this show and only now I'm hearing about it, I'm guessing the marketing was awful.

Just smashed through the first 9 episodes. What a load of spectacularly pretentious bollocks…I loved it!

I’m only two episodes in and was coming here to see if anyone mentioned The Leftovers (one of my favorite shows). Apparently everyone has.

I’m loving this so far.

They missed a great chance to have an interesting show surrounding the brothers and Kirsten and their struggle to survive. I am two episodes in and struggling mightily to care about the "troupe" aspect and all the injected storylines. The most interesting thing is the cause of the disaster and it gets shrugged off after one ep.

They circle back to the brothers later on in the series.

Yep. I agree. I gave up when they jumped ahead to some crap about some actors in a park or some other garbage. It started so good.

I'm enjoying this, but finding myself having a hard time really caring about the theater troupe, despite it being so central to the story. I keep wishing for more of everything else and less of that.

I'm definitely not seeing the connections or similarities to The Leftovers, though, outside of the crew, obviously. That could just be because I hold The Leftovers in such rare air, I don't know.
