A Hologram for the King (2014) Tom Tykwer, Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks is to reunite with one of his Cloud Atlas directors, Tom Tykwer, for an adaptation of the Dave Eggers novel A Hologram for the King, Deadline reports.

Tykwer, the German film-maker whose contribution to Cloud Atlas was somewhat overlooked among all the hype surrounding his co-directors, siblings Andy and Lana Wachowski, will take charge.

IMO, it'll be interesting to see how this pair team up in a more 'serious' film. I have Cloud Atlas in my to watch pile but from what I gather, most found it to be decent.

Tom Tykwer is one of the best and most interesting directors working today, so any news on future projects is exciting.

I saw this today, one of three people in the theatre. I enjoyed it a lot. Yes, there are a couple pacing issues, and I thought that the ending was too rushed, but otherwise, this is a really sweet and interesting film, which tries to show Saudis in a different way, I think.

It's a shame that it's been (effectively) banned from young people in the USA, though I doubt it would appeal personally to them, anyway. Yet is always seems that it's films like this one, and The King's Speech which suffer from their R ratings, particularly as some teachers might love to show this in a high school (or even middle school) class on world cultures, or something.

I called it. This time, it's actually worse, because there is very, very little worth objecting to here. No violence, no f-words (in fact, barely a naughty word is uttered), and only about five seconds of sex, shown in the same way that any of the American networks do. The problem is exclusively down to one scene, with three or four shots of non-sexual nudity, which is exceptionally justified by context. This is a PG-13 film masquerading as an R rated film, thanks to the MPAA's incredibly juvenile views about breasts.
