Default Modern Horror Movies or All Eras?

Do you guys like more modern horror movies (1960's to today)?

Or do you like more vintage/classic ones from 1950's and earlier?

Or any good horror movie, no matter the era?

Well I do prefer pre-1990's horror films personally, and have many more of these in my collection than the more modern horrors. I'd say the 50's and 60's were the two best decades for me, and I include here both American and British horror movies.

70s and 80s for me. The Exorcist and Texas Chainsaw Massacre really kicked the genre into high gear, until CGI and music video directors came along in the 90s and started churning out boring rehashes and overly slick jump-scare clichés.

Same here. When you think about it most horror movies for the past 30 some odd years have been trying to remake Texas Chain Saw and that's not including literal remakes.

All eras for me! Although I've had trouble getting into some of the silent horrors, everything from Universal to Val Lewton to Hammer to 70s (independent and big budget) to 80s USA indi-splatter and Italian surrealism, right on up to the latest and greatest like It Follows... so much great stuff to see. I think the only major subgenre (other than silent) that I've had trouble embracing is the 60s AIP/Roger Corman era (a big emphasis on performance and humor with those, which is generally not what I'm looking for in horror) , although I like some of that stuff too.

A lot of my favorites tend to be from the '70s and '80s but I also like older ones, too, going as far back as the '30s. I also have a fondness for '90s horror, since it was during that decade that I actually started getting into horror. A lot of post-90s horror doesn't float my boat but there's still some things in there I've enjoyed.

Know when it comes to low budget horror prefer stuff from the 70's and 80's because of the practical effects. The newer low budgets lose something with the cheap digital effects.

I'll watch horror films from any decade, but my faves are largely from the 70s and 80s.

70s onwards. Wasn't a fan of the 2000s for the most part with all the torture porn stuff, but there's been some fine horrors in the 2010s.

I'll watch horror films from any decade, being my favorite genre. But my preference being for the 1980s and prior. Like many, most of my viewing consists of '70s and '80s era films.

I guess I'm showing my age here seeing as nearly everyone favours the later horror movies.

To be honest, for me there are plenty of great horror films from the 70's and 80's which I really enjoy - too many to mention really, but as a kid I used to watch many of the classic American 50's and 60's horror and sci-fi films as well as the British films from the likes of Hammer and Amicus which used to get shown very regularly on television (usually Saturday nights). So these are the films I grew up with, so to speak, as well as the earlier classic Universal movies.

However, when it comes to the 1990's and onwards, I'm a little more selective. Don't get me wrong, I'll give anything a try, but I prefer an atmospheric style of horror rather than films which concentrate too much simply on jump-scares.

My interest in the genre started with the Universal monster movies of the 30's and 40's when I was a mere tot and the atmospheric films of those decades remain personal favorites. Still, EVERY decade has offered up great horror films. Highbrow or lowbrow, cerebral or visceral, supernatural or real-life, both foreign and domestic, I'll gladly watch 'em all. I do the think the genre is rife with a lot of crap...but discovering the good or great ones always makes wading through the rest well worth it!

If it's good, it makes no difference. I love horror of all eras and different countries.

I'll watch any horror film dated from 1922 to 2018. Chances are I'll enjoy all future releases as they come out too.
