Just found the date on ondvdreleases.com and it says it's coming on May 17

Universal is listed as a distributor on Amazon Canada. Presumably they will handle the US distribution too, which is great as their releases of Krampus and Crimson Peak are packed with extras.

I'd be surprised, seeing how the film was distributed by A24 (which in turn gets home releases by Lionsgate).

I don't get why people even bother saying this when it comes to new movies. You'll pay a ton more and it's not like there's a restoration or anything to do to the movie.

even htough my theater experience was spoiled, this will be day 1 pickup. REALLY hoping for a steelbook though.

I caught a screening of this film at an AMC - something which is becoming rarer by the minute. Of course, it only played for a week. Can't say I walked away totally satisfied by the film. Also, I could barely make out the dialogue at times. As silly as this may sound, the film could've used subtitles. Points for authenticity, though

Why would Criterion handle the home distribution of a new title? I don't believe they do that for any film, even the forign titles.

Criterion's focus isn't just on restoration, their focus is making films they believe hold significance in cinema easier to optain for the masses. It is why they have nearly everything Wes Anderson directed, even his newer stuff like Moonrise Kingdom.

They do from time to time. Phoenix for example:

I would rather it wasn't Criterion as well for just that reason, but I can still see why others would wish for that to happen. Criterion are usually pretty darn good at the supplemental stuff.

I get that, but regular Blu's can have pretty amazing supplements as well. Depends how much effort the studio wants to put in I guess.
