Sony Pictures A Few Good Men (1992)

there has been some back and forth with blu-ray titles (as this was originally supposed to come out in June).

I know not everyone reads the upcoming/pre-order threads so
just wanted to let you know that it has a new release date of
September 18th--hopefully this one will stick.

We all know that Jack Nickleson was talking about the HD DVD crowd's denial of Blu-ray superiority when he yelled "You can't handle the truth!" :-)

I had to walk out on this movie, my girlfriend hated it. Maybe I can enjoy it from home when it comes out.

I can't believe she hated it. This movie just sails across the board - both sexes, all ages and critics.

It was on the release schedule for Sony & then they cancelled it & now they have it back on the release schedule. So that's why all the confusion.

The press release for this movie is also just shown on this site today because it was cancelled & then just put back on the schedule.

I can't wait to get this one.

Default Review: A Few Good Men

http://bluray.highdefdigest.com/655/fewgoodmen.html

nuggets:

Video:

'A Few Good Men' enjoys a superlative transfer from Sony -- this is the kind of top-tier video I hope for whenever I rip open a new catalog title on high-def...

Audio:

Sony offers up another one of their standard uncompressed PCM 5.1 Surround tracks for 'A Few Good Men,' and it easily handles the demands of the film's so-so sound design. I didn't find the movie's soundtrack to be as compelling as its visuals, though considering the talky nature of the film, that's to be expected.

Extras:

'A Few Good Men' finally received the special edition treatment on standard-def DVD back in 2001, and it was a solid if not exemplary package. Sony has not added anything new to the mix for the film's Blu-ray debut (nor even upgraded the video, which is presented here in 480i/MPEG-2 only), but it's still an entertaining look into the making of the film, even if it's only truly insightful in fits and starts.

(no hd bonus content)

Final Thoughts

Not only is 'A Few Good Men' a tightly plotted, smartly directed courtroom drama, but it boasts a top-notch cast including a now-classic performance by Jack Nicholson. This Blu-ray release delivers handily on all fronts, including a top tier transfer, solid soundtrack and some fine (if still too slim) supplements, making it an easy recommend for all.

Yeah, HD DVD can't handle the truth. Blu will dominate.

When you see the blacks on this title, your jaw will absolutely drop. I'm working on a review for this title as we speak, and it is a very nice catalog title.

And it is another MPEG2 gorgeous title ,I hope i can find the secret behind the multiple encode why MPEG2 sometimes look Gorgeous and AVC sometimes look Marvelous.

HE IS JUST impressed by the Quality and i bet you if this transfer done on HD-DUD Peter will give it a five star but he didnt.

Not to get too off-topic, but LCDs are getting much closer to Plasmas on black levels - not there yet, but close. I went SXRD because the flat panel tech costs twice as much for the equivalent, and I'd rather spend that on a receiver/speakers/blu-ray.
