I know White Boy Rick release date is supposed to be 12/25 but anyone out and about see it on the shelf today & if so buy it? Checking Target's website shows in stock at local stores instead of still showing as pre-order. However Bestbuy's website still shows it as pre-order only...

I thought it was a solid crime drama, but not a particularly memorable one. Does anyone feel that there was too much focus on the rather strange (given his age) but still relatively mundane (from a hollywood plotline viewpoint) "FBI informant" storyline when it seems like the true story of Wrshe Jr. only got more interesting after incarceration given the Detroit police & prosecutors dogged insistence that he never be released from prison, and then he goes and gets involved in an illegal car racketeering scheme involving his sister whilst transferred to a Florida prison in the noughties?

I kinda feel like Demange could have had his cake and eaten it with the critique of how the informant system in America chews them up and spits them out, then he could have explored over-agressive pursual of convicted felons who probably could have turned things around... then oh look, he's ****ed up again because his family needs cash and he's in prison. Could have been a pretty twisty-turny film!

It's the kinda story that sounds like it could make an interesting short HBO miniseries ala The Jinx.

I really liked this one. I never knew about wershe Jr. And his story, but I thought the film was very well done.

Wow, I cannot believe how small this thread is! lol

On any rate, we rented it over the weekend. I thought it would have and should have been better. However, the movie did a great job of capturing the tone, mood, and environment of the environment - this was the strength of the movie for me. It's also a fascinating story and amazing how the FBI corruptness was allowed to that level.

Form a PQ standpoint, a truly outstanding Blu-ray. Audio was very good too.

Shocked when I saw the trailer how horribly miscast this was.
The lead kid looks like they picked him from outside a random Target store.
And his acting in the trailer wasn't much better.

That stuck out to me as well. Aside from McConaughey and a few choice party scenes the movie was fairly ordinary to me. I am not sure if i would watch it again, but i saw worse than this movie this year lol.

It's a great slice of life film. More about the family dynamic than crime for sure. Very well done. I dug it!
