Default Crying Freeman OVA

Has anyone seen the first Crying Freeman OVA that's in HD as an extra on the French Crying Freeman live action movie release? I think it looks great but it is such a shame it's only the first episode. I still have the complete series on US DVD but I would love to own it on Blu-ray. Whoever has the rights to this needs to release a BD collection asap.

Seems I'm just waiting forever for my favorite anime to be released on Blu-ray: Crying Freeman, all Fist Of The North Star series, Wicked City, Urotsukidoji, western releases for all Cutie Honey series, Violence Jack, the list goes on and on. The only reason I'm still watching DVDs these days is because of anime...

It will be released on bluray by Discotek eventually, they said they were. Just got to wait till there aloud too, hopefully next year. The others you listed are very unlikely sadly.

Well that's just typical.

I think due to my preferences in anime I'll be watching DVDs for a long time to come.

I still have 1 of the VHS Volumes I got for free. Though because of the coverart, I almost didn't get it because of it looking like some really lame low budget American Action movie from the 70s. That is when I remembered the title and decided to get it.

Got really excited until I found out that disc is region locked... ohh well. I would cop the series in a second, though.

Hopefully Discotek or even Sentai can relicense this. It’s long overdue for a BD.

Never seen this but it's getting a blind buy from me. Always looked awesome and I want to support these vault restorations!

I'm so hype for the Blu-ray. I still remember watching Crying Freeman on VHS back in the day at my friends house. The manga is amazing too.

It’s a gorgeous looking OVA. Lots of big name animators like Mamoru Hosoda, Kouichi Arai and Hideki Hamasu worked on it. Your enjoyment of it may depend on your level of tolerance for over-the-top violence and exploitation fair but it’s fun in a trashy way. That first OVA in particular is very impressive because it’s probably the closest any adaptation has gotten to emulating Ryoichi Ikegami incredibly detailed designs.

If Discotek releases this title in steelbook, I'll buy it in a flash (and Street Fighter 4k too). If not, I'll still buy it, but waiting for a sale though.

It's not exactly a vault title like Project A-Ko and others were since they paid Toei to do this one.

Toei Video themselves scanned and restored them in Japan while we commissioned and oversaw. Basically the same way as our joint work with Tokyo Lab.
Regardless, glad to see the Manga UK dub here since the DVD they last put out was before they started including multiple dubs on their discs (which started IIRC with their Mystery of Mamo DVD).

Crying Freeman is really bad-I have the dvd set and just barely managed to watch it just once. It's been sitting buried in the back shelf never to be viewed again.

At that point, you should just sell it.
