Hi

We have very much enjoyed delivering the LOVEFiLM By Post service to you. However, over the last few years we’ve seen a decreasing demand for DVD and Blu-ray rental as customers increasingly move to streaming. Due to this, we will be closing the LOVEFiLM By Post service on 31st October 2017.

Until then, you can continue to rent movies and TV shows on DVD and Blu-ray discs as usual. There is no need to take any action. You will not be billed for your LOVEFiLM subscription after 30th September 2017, and you can continue to enjoy the service until it closes on 31st October 2017.

As a Prime member, you can continue to stream thousands of titles, including award-winning Amazon Originals, as part of your Prime Video benefit. You can enjoy Prime Video on Smart TVs, mobile and tablet devices, Fire TV Stick, video game consoles, and through the web at amazon.co.uk/primevideo.

If you don't have a Prime Video supported device, or could use an additional one, we are happy to offer LOVEFiLM By Post members a £15 discount on a Fire TV Stick to say thank you for being a loyal customer. To claim your Fire TV Stick for the discounted price of £24.99 (current price £39.99),

For more information about the update to your LOVEFiLM membership, you can visit our help page. Please feel free to contact us with any questions via amazon.co.uk/contactus. We’re here 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to help you.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for being a valued LOVEFiLM By Post customer.

Kind regards,
LOVEFiLM By Post

They blame streaming rather than the clunky way in which they operated it. Rarely sending out what people actually would like to watch. Something that doesn't happen with streaming I guess.

It also costs them too much to buy and store the dvds and blue ray's. This way they have no storage costs and no upfront costs on the discs

Maybe if I'd sent back that DVD of Punishment Park I kept forgetting I had then they wouldn't be in this mess...

I was with them for a couple of years and never had an issue.
I only left as I was going to the cinema more and bought the films I wanted from there.

I was actually thinking of starting my membership again but thanks for the heads up on Cinema Paradiso as I never knew that rental company existed.

I've been with LoveFilm/Amazon for about ten years and have no complaints at all - stuff sent promptly, never the wrong disk, and problems resolved immediately. I can't imagine what makes people say they are crap

Sad to see it go, so will check out that other company now.

Of course there will be lots of people here who moan about the service not doing exactly what they want, but I've used Lovefilm for close to two decades. I was generally very happy with it and it's how I watch most new releases. I watch a large amount of films and I can't afford to buy all of those on Blu-ray. Streaming services offer a small fraction of releases compared with what you could rent on Blu-ray on Lovefilm. With my subscription it worked out at less than £1.50 a title. Crap news.

Suppose Ill have to stream rentals now...

I used them for years. Loved them, was a member before Amazon absorbed them.

Things started to get a bit wobbly when there were fewer and fewer titles getting added to my watchlist. Once it dropped to less than a dozen or so I just decided to cancel, after I worked my way through the outstanding titles.

You needed a fair few titles in your watchlist for things to work correctly (no idea why) but once you dropped below this the priority titles seemed to get ignored, they appeared to be a bit slower coming through etc.

So, it is your fault! Late fees would have kept them afloat

In all honesty those 1.99 Amazon rentals are the mutts!

I was feeling terribly nostalgic about rental stores the other day, it's such a shame that streaming decimated the industry. I understand that with streaming is so much more convenient and cost effective (if you're internet is up to stuff), but there was something special about wandering around the aisles looking at VHS clamshells.

I'll be sorry to see Lovefilm go. Been a loyal customer for years, and never had any issues with their service. I relied on Lovefilm a lot, simply because I can't afford to buy many discs and it was a good way of not missing out on some of the titles I wanted to see. I really enjoyed working my way through discs with a pile of extras - something that streaming doesn't offer.
Thanks for a great service. Shame it has to end. I understand the reasons, but doesn't help me that much.

Just in the process of checking out Cinema Paradiso. They look a reasonable outfit. Thanks to disrember for the link.

I agree,I have some great memories of going to the store on a Friday evening to pick a film to watch that night,I got so excited about what I might pick to watch.

Really sad to hear this news. I loved being able to see so many titles that are not carried on streaming services, as well as being able to listen to audio commentaries etc.

Also thanks for the heads up on Cinema Paradiso as I never knew that rental company existed either.

Using Cinema Paradiso for last couple of years, an excellent service; choice and speed of delivery.
