Long Shot (2019)

We enjoyed the film and planned to get the 4K version. Alas, Lionsgate cancelled the 4K Blu-ray release. I am debating between paying $14.99 for the 4K version on iTunes to play with my Apple TV 4K, or, getting the standard HD Blu-ray for $19.96.

Has anyone picked up the standard Blu-ray version of ‘Long Shot’ yet today? Does the digital copy code redeem directly in iTunes? It’s a Lionsgate title. If so, that would give me both the HD Blu-ray and the 4K streaming version at the same time.

The film was a massive flop at the box office, so I'm sadly not surprised the 4K UHD was canceled.

But did ANYONE buy the standard HD Blu-ray version today?

Apparently not. I guess I'll just go by Target tomorrow and look at the back of the case to see if it is an iTunes redeemable digital code (directly in iTunes).

I purchased 'Long Shot' on Blu-ray today. The digital copy code that is included must be redeemed at movieredeem.com (a Lionsgate site) and then you pick which streaming service you wish to redeem it through. I picked iTunes.

I'm pleased to report that doing so gave me the 4K Dolby Vision version of 'Long Shot' via my Apple TV 4K. I played the beginning of the film, just to make sure.

So, now I have the best of both worlds, so to speak. At least, for what Lionsgate is offering. My preference would have been a 4K Blu-ray but, alas, not to be.

The really good news is that 'Long Shot' is currently on Cartwheel at Target for 15% off. Combined with my 5% RedCard discount, I walked out of the Target with the film for $16.14 plus tax. A mere $1.15 more than iTunes was asking for the 4K digital copy AND I got a HD Blu-ray version too.

I just picked it up and I'm surprised how much behind the scenes extras the disc has, it's about 97 minutes of behind the scene material (pretty good material, especially for something that was a bomb).

Frustrating that the US got a Dolby Atmos track, but the Aussie release only has a lossless DTS 5.1. At first, I thought it might be because they shoved the film on a BD-25. Just opened it up, but they used a BD-50. I just don’t understand why the Atmos track, that would have been available to the distributor (Studio Canal), wasn’t used.

Does anyone know if this works on region B players?
