Default 4K tv with blu Ray movies

Since a blu Ray movie is 1080p, even if you buy a 4K tv, will you notice the difference? I heard the tv can “upscale” the blu Ray so it loooks “better” but technically isn’t it still 1080p? Meaning will I notice a difference in picture quality watching the blu Ray movie on a regular non-4K LED TV vs a LED 4K TV?

Even DVDs look better on my 4K TV.

Bad upscaling makes it look softer.

I'm finding that I am re-watching many of my bluray movies in my collection due to how much better they look on my 4K TV. I notice the difference big time. I have the 65" Sony XBR 810C from 2015 and I give credit to Sony's 4K X-Reality Pro Engine that makes this particular TV a great upscaler. I remember the box boldly displayed in large print and in the center, "Upscales Everything." or something like that. I know it's marketing but it is still a bold statement to make. And I find it true. I also learned later on that the PS4 is a good upscaler and that is what I use for watching blurays.

It doesn't necessarily have to be lie. Everybody's video equipment is different. DVDs that may look bad on your 4K TV, could very well look good on somebody else's.

I found that DVDs do look better fed through a superior upscaler like the one in my Oppo. The one built into my OLED or AVR isn't as good, even for Blu-ray. The Oppo wins all round.

I think a lot of scaler chips fail when it comes to chroma upsampling. 4:2:0 chroma compression is very resolution lossy when it comes to certain heavily saturated colours, particularly strong reds, and how well those colours are scaled back to full res are especially important for something like DVD were the resolution is low as it is.

Blocky, bleeding reds make me weep inside.
