Thumbs down Say goodbye to BOGOs?

Now that the format war is over, can we pretty much count on not having any more BOGOs? Is it time for us to start expecting to pay the high prices for the content?

well first, until Toshiba emit a press release saying they are White Flagging it's not over. Until Paramount and Universal are actually producing BluRay movie and that i have a copie of Bourne and TF in my hand, it's not over.

BOGO will exist because they like flushing Catalog title that don't sells at higher prices. Personnally i would prefer a drop of the MSRP ... so that any one can use it..

I hope not.

Ask yourself, are BOGOs useless in gaining market share on DVD?

Ditto. Blu-ray is now up against it's true competitor: SD-DVD.

BOGOs are definitely awesome. But not essential for battling DVD. But I think Blu-ray overtaking DVD is just a war of attrition, a natural progression of technology. It will take many years I think.

There will probably still be BOGOs on older releases.

I prefer lower prices on individual discs (~$14.99).

Lowering the MSRP to under $20 or the same price as the SD-DVD release will go along way to moving people over to hi-def.

You have your new HDTV, why not buy a Blu-Ray player if the software is the same price or close to regular DVD to feed that TV?

Lowering the MSRP is really the way to go if you want to make things interesting.

I've basically filled my library with all the 2006 and 2007 releases I wanted to own, thanks to the BOGOs. And as I've started purchasing my Blu-rays just four months ago, and now own somewhat less than 50 titles, I don't foresee the need for any buying sprees soon -- on my own part. I'll be more than happy to preorder and purchase titles on their release, as Amazon's price coupled with the cheap US dollar makes them quite affordable.

BOGOs will still show up, of course, as Blu-ray gains steam -- to enable new users to do what I did, and to let the Camp Formerly Known As Red to shift their collection to the cool part of the spectrum.

OP, what are you talking about it? We should expect to see more BOGO! I find it funny how people come up w/ this statement.

These copanies need to meet their quarterly numbers and they'll start slashing prices. Also, the BDA group and companies needs to penetrate the DVD world.

They WILL proivide more BOGOs! Guranteee it!

I think we will see BOGO's until at least 2009. When the whole HD broadcast thing happens.

And as someone mentioned. If there are 2 movies that cost 25 dollars a piece but no one wants either they would be more likely to do a BOGO opposed to lowering both down in price.

They definately won't go away but they'll attract a different crowd. Those like me and many others that used them to build up their libraries. They are a great incentive to allow someone to transition into the blu-ray technology easier.

There is no HD broadcast thing "happening" in 2009. There is digital, but that doesn't imply, require, mandate or hint at HD.

Well its all about natural progression, as in the days of VHS, eventually everyone changes as the technology advances , so DVD will disappear over the next few years , and Blu will be king until its time for the next generation of media to come along.
