Germany Viy aka Forbidden Empire 3D Blu-ray(2012) [Region B Locked] [International Cut only]

Viy has been released on 3D Blu-ray in Germany, Italy, France and Russia. All 3D editions are Region B locked except the Russian edition, which is region free and runs 17 minutes longer than the others, but has no English audio or subtitles. The French edition has no English audio or subtitles on the 3D disc, so please note that the only English-friendly 3D releases are the German and Italian ones.

Viy 3D Blu-ray German edition, includes English audio

Viy 3D Blu-ray German limited edition, includes English audio

Viy 3D La Maschera del Demonio Blu-ray Italian limited edition, includes English audio

Viy 3D Blu-ray 128m original Russian edition (runs 17m longer than the International Cut) but no English audio or subtitles

La Légende de Viy 3D Blu-ray French edition, includes English audio for the 2D version but NOT for the 3D version

Original post:

DAMN THIS LOOKS GOOD!!!!

This is coming out on 3D blu in France (May 15th) and Germany (July 2nd). French version has a listing on Amazon (France) but according to the pics of the back of the box (http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...L._SL1500_.jpg) the 2D version has English and French audio, but the 3D has French audio ONLY??!!!?? Looks to be region B locked as well.

German version is not up for pre order yet. Believed to have English and French audio on both versions. Hoping it will be region A or region free. I got to get this flick. Looks great!!!

Seeing as how the French release doesn't have the 3D version in English (and probably has forced subs on the 2D version) it looks like I'll be getting the German release...

This is a remake. The original is about a seminary student while on break is traveling and spends the night in an old woman who happens to be a witch. She casts a spell on him and he ends up killing her. When he returns to the seminary a group of men requests him to do the ritual prayers for a young woman who has recently died. They only want him. He must pray over the body for three days. At that point it gets a little weird._

Crazy! I saw the original version as a kid in Russia growing up in the 1980s.

I remember being scared as hell and it was very popular is there at the time. The premise was something about I'm being locked in the monastery / Church by yourself over night or maybe for 3 days. Right next to a coffin.

and all kinds of weird crap was going on inside the church. The only way to stay protected was to draw a circle out of chalk on the floor, and the demons could not come in inside the circle! had a huge impact on me as a kid and I haven't thought of it in at least 20 years.

This seems like a film that you must see in 3D. It looks like they had fun with the 3D also. For some odd reason Treasure of the 4 Crowns came to my mind when it comes to the playful side of 3D.

Finally watched the trailer and i think it looks fantastic! Love the visuals and it's great to see Flemyng in a lead role, been a fan of him for ages. The FX look great too. I really hope the eventual German release is English friendly.

Can i just ask how the above poster (13thman) knows that the 3D disc has NO English on it? That really sucks.

I am not sure why either version would have English since this was originally released in Russian.

Based on the trailer above being English and the glut of English speaking actors in it. IE it was filmed in English. Jason Flemyng does not speak Russian. Did you watch the trailer? They're speaking English.

The trailer might as well be dubbed. I don't really think it was filmed in English because pretty much every other actor except Flemyng and Dance are Russian. They probably did their lines in English and were dubbed, with the release language remaining Russian.

No, but I seen bits of the original production and it is all in Russian, perhaps the English speaking actors were dubbed into Russian, I don't know. However, I would see no reason for the German or French release to offer English. Although it is funny, I don't think the French release even offers Russian. The Russian release of the 3D Blu-ray included only Russian and not even Russian subtitles. Depending on which studio is releasing this in those countries, English may not have even been an option for them.

I just check http://www.amazon.fr/dp/B00SU2UXUW?_...I35NSUHGIY6031 and this is the information for audio "Audio : Anglais (DTS-HD 5.1), Français (DTS-HD 5.1)"

That is correct for the French 2D Blu-ray. The back of the cover shows the 3D Blu-ray only has Français 5.1
