I expect Speilberg to release one of his Universal movies on BD, like Jaws or Jurassic Park, and when it sells well, Universal will probably start supporting BD.

From my understanding Universal has got to want to release them on Blu-ray first. Spielberg has veto power over a proposed release on a medium, and can make recommendations but can not force Universal or Paramount to release his movies on Blu-ray unless they too are a willing party. Hope this helps clarify.

I don't think Spielberg is hesitant at all. Look at the release of Close Encounters on Blu-ray. It is hands down the nicest box set available on Blu. Not to mention that it's the greatest presentation of this masterpiece we've ever seen.

Yeah, I agree some of us are getting ahead of ourselves. First of all, Para signed a contract that won't run out until the beginning of next year. They're going to have to shell out a whole lot of money to get back Blu. I'm unsure as to what agreements Uni has with the dying format, but I would guess that it's quite binding, at least for a little while longer. But I am surprised how few movies Spielberg did with WB. I don't really have a second of all except to say that people are confusing themselves.

Some day, we will have all the movies we want on blu. Keep it cool and enjoy all the other fantastic movies, that already are on blu-ray.

Today we won at major battle, and soon this whole war will be over and the other format will be forgotten

I think now that we have one disc to rule them all it will help encourage them but the real test will be how much market penetration we can get now. Right now HD movies are about 3-4.5% of the market, I'm hoping for high teens by the end of the year and double that in 2009. Now our battle is with DVD and THAT will be the true battle.

More importantly (for me, at least)... Criterion Collection will probably be very willing to start releasing their movies on Blu-Ray now. Spielberg wasn't hesitant... Criterion Collection was.

I doubt that Lucas was really that hesitant -- I remember years ago, Lucas was wanting to wait for blu before releasing any of the Star Wars. I think he's just late at getting anything released. As always.

I don't see Lucas releasing anything just yet. Maybe he'll wait for all the profiles to be completed. There's one more to go, right?

I wouldn't rule out an Indiana Jones Blu boxset when Indy 4 is released on home video.

George Lucas waited 7 years to release the OT on DVD. SW isn't coming anytime soon whether BD wins sooner or later.

Exactly, and in a perfect world -- and this world has just gotten a bit more perfect, with the end of the war -- all of his movies would get such royal treatment.

And the smart thing would be to release some of his more personal Warner titles on Blu-ray in similar boxsets -- think Empire of the Sun or A.I. -- to satisfy the craving before unleashing the truly big titles, beginning with Indy this upcoming holiday season.

I think Lucas needs to release at least 2 more standard DVD editions of all 6 movies before he will even begin to think about BR.

=P They have successfully 'coerced' Warner executives - they didn't like waking up to horses' heads in their beds. I paid them off and let them go on about their lives.
