Question When do you add your new blu-rays to your collection?

After just spending the past hour and a half adding a big ol' stack of blus to my collection, it got me curious. How long do you wait to add your newly purchased discs to your collection? Now, I know some of you don't organize your blus and just put them on the shelf as you acquire them. So, I assume you probably don't wait too long. To those of you who do organize, whether it be alphabetical, categorical, chronological, or something else, you know what a tedious task it can be to add them on the shelf because you have to shift everything. So, how far do you let that stack of unsightly, disorganized goodies grow before finally saying "Dude, I gotta get this thing under control because this is ridiculous?!"

My breaking point is usually a stack of around 15-20. That could take week or maybe a month. Like many of you the situation is quite fluid and you usually have an order on the way from Amazon or elsewhere. The next Tuesday is always around the corner, as well. So, a new stack is almost immediately imminent and the vicious cycle begins again

And, for some contrast, when do you add them to your "online" collection? Be it here at blu-ray.com or with a third party app like DVD profiler (or both)? For that, I almost always add them the day of purchase as it is so much easier obviously

Anyways, just curious as to how you all go about things

For a physical purchase I put it on the shelf when I get home or comes in the mail. For digital I do it day of purchase.

Scan them in right away with my Blu-ray.com app. After I bought three different titles twice without realizing it I started getting anal about adding right away.

Every 2-3 weeks. The amount of titles varies. I don’t buy at an extremely aggressive pace like some members of the forum do. Currently running out of shelving space though. (who isn’t )

I add them to my online collection usually right after I order them or purchase in store.

I add it when I get home from store, or when order has arrived on my doorstep!

It varies. Sometimes I get them put away right away and then sometimes I let them stack up to probably 10 or so. My wife let's me know when I've been slacking on putting them away.

I add them to my collection as soon as they're actually in my hand, either after a store purchase or after they've arrived in the mail.

I store my Blu-rays by genre, so I am able to place the new purchases in their respective genre bins.

Having an app on your phone is definitely a life saver and thankfully I have yet to do this!

Immediately upon pre-order/purchase. It's much easier to go back and edit a listing or remove a title altogether than it is to remember to add something I may have pre-ordered months earlier.

Immediately after I receive the package in the mail and open it up to see that it is okay.

I have mine mostly alphabetical although I do have some exceptions for things like the MCU movies where there are a lot of films with various titles, I like to have them all together.

So yeah I wait a little while as like you say it means moving a lot of things around, so maybe when I have upwards of 10 to add to the shelves is when I'll look to do it. As for my collection online, I'm still adding to it on this site and have a long way to go but I'll be adding new purchases in as and when I get them.

I’m in the process of rearranging my genres. Which genres did you pick? How granular do you go? Also, do you split up your Criterions and Twilight Times within their respective genre bins or do you keep those together?

And to answer the OP’s question, I enter mine on this site as soon as I order them, so I don’t accidentally buy the same item twice. It goes into my “owned” folder until I receive it, then I file it into the right category. I didn’t realize the app had a scan feature (I rarely use the app) - thx for the heads up!

I was regularly adding them the first few years I was on the site. At around 200 I kept forgetting to add new ones and it snowballed. I probably have at least 400 to add, and at this point I don't ever see it happening.

I add them to my list on my computer and highlight them when they are ordered. I remove the highlighting once they've arrived safely.

on this site i usually add new titles in as i get them within a day or two. in terms of arranging them at home i've been pretty lax on that. i try to keep stuff like Universal Monster or Godzilla titles together but that's about as far as i've gotten.
