Default Jet Li's The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk

Jet Li's The Legend of Fong Sai Yuk releases on August 10, 2010. I have never seen this movie, but I looking forward to watching it .

This is probably my favourite Jet Li film alongside The Shaolin Temple and Once upon time in china 1. Mine is on order, I hope they release part 2 soon as well.

well i have recived this now and watched about half an hour of it. I'm pretty disappointed with it to be honest.

Two Scenes are missing from it already, the first about 5 seconds missing, the second missing scene was maybe 30 seconds to a minute and i thought was quite key to the story, they actually cut it half way through one of the characters speaking and faded to the next scene

The subtitles are also awful imo, some dialogue is not subtitled and of the subtitles shown a lot of it does not correspond to the actual speech, they have actually made things up lol

I hope there will be a HK release in the future.

Luckily it was quite cheap i only paid Ģ12 for it, I'm disapppointed that they made cuts to the film though, its already quite a short film. Tai chi master had no cuts that i spotted.

pq for this film is quite good though

This is truly awful, two more scenes cut after an 45mins watched, during two of these cut scenes they made up dialogue in the subtitles so it makes sense to non native speakers following the subtitles, however listening the actual spoken dialogue it doesnt make sense, since they've cut out certain scenes

the subtitles are really bad, during one scene one character says "you look like you've put on some weight" to the other, the subtitle says "you look thin" wtf

Rant over

update

more scenes cut, I cant watch this anymore, two really funny scenes cut out and quite substantial cuts.

Not nearly as good as "The Legend of Long Duc Dong".

I watched the movie last night and I thought it looked pretty good. I listened with the original audio and English subtitles. First time I watch the movie and relaly enjoyed it. If some scenes were cut, then it is an obvious disappointment.

it is a good film, I've been doing some research it seems that Dragon Dynasty released the shorter International cut that is about 5 minutes shorter than the proper HK cut.

At least they included the original language for this version though, the original dragon dynasty dvd release only had an english dub

Found this comment from bey Logan (one of the big wigs at dragon Dynasty) regarding this blu-ray release

"the good news is that we will have the original Cantonese track, but, again thanks to the red tape at the original Hong Kong film company, we won't have the scenes from the Hong Kong version. It drives me crazy, but these guys don't give a ^%$# about their fans in the west (or anywhere else!). Thanks for your support!" - Bey

Thatīs so bad I canīt understand why they donīt want to sell their real master overseas and make money of that? One thing is to not sell their own audiotrack but to sell a cut up movie just for the fun of it sucks.

No wonder HK movies is a hard sell in west when we get lousy editions and eng dubs. Probably will buy only tai chi master and hope some other country have better luck with Fong Sai Yuk (france seems to get good masters in the past)

There are two new editions of the film since this thread ended in 2010, a UK edition, and a German edition.

It seems that the German one at least has lossess Cantonese.

Are there any other impressions? Are they maybe uncut, do they also feature any dubtitles, insteat of subtitles?

These 2 films are my most wanted. Does anyone know if Eureka or 88 Films have the rights?

I have the old HK DVD’s which are uncut but non-anamorphic and have dreadful subtitles.
I also have the Japanese DVD’s which are uncut and anamorphic but have no English subs.
The US Blu-ray is cut to hell and has dubtitles.
The UK Blu-ray is the same cut version with an extra tiny cut but has better subtitles than the US one.

Really hoping someone will release good versions on Blu-ray…

No word yet AFAIK. I think the old HK LDs are the best, because IIRC the HK DVDs have horrendous remixed soundtracks that render them unlistenable. The LDs have the original mono soundtracks.
