Default How much of image improve would I see (JS8500)?

I have a Samsung JS8500 that I purchased in 2015. It's a 65", 4K, original HDR TV at 120 HZ (they call it 240 motion rate but I believe it's truly a 120HZ). Functionally it's been a pretty awful TV. The main issue I have is that if left plugged in (even turned off), the TV gets so hot that switching inputs no longer works. I have to turn off the surge protector nightly to avoid this issue.

Anyway..I have to say, when I watch 4k content I don't see much of a difference over 1080P content. Would getting a newer TV with newer HDR technology make a big difference? Or are my eyes just not good enough to see the difference between 1080P and 4K/HDR? I am sitting within 5 feet or so to the TV so I don't think that is the issue.

Just looking for some input as I always get good info from this forum. Thanks!
