You should be able to get enough background from just watching the movie. I have seen every episode multiple times of SG1 and Atlantis, they are worth watching if the series interests you. But they said you should be able to watch it without ever seeing the other series.

That's what it seemed like from the previews of it. Thanks.

Yeah, I think it is being geared as a whole new experience. From the reviews I've read the premiere feels like Stargate but steps up all the flaws from the previous shows. As a huge fan of SG-1 and Atlantis (Just check my gallery) I am extremely excited and anxious to get my hands on Universe and test it out.

I have all the series as well, but that F-302 seems impressive, you should have it out of the box. Or are you never going to open it and hope it becomes a collectors item?

So glad it finally premiered! I've been dying without my Stargate! I think the dynamics of the group is already interesting. There's lines being drawn in the sand from the get go.
[Show spoiler]I think the issue is going to be military vs. non military for a while, also everybody vs. Doctor Rush

Can't wait for next weekend to be able to watch a bit more. There's been a great emotional start to the show, and I hope it keeps the pace up.
[Show spoiler]Who would have thought a Senator would sacrifice himself like that???

No, it's just kinda fragile and I want to keep it safe until I find it a permanent home.

That premiere last night was pretty good. Definitely not the Stargate I'm used to but I guess we'll see if it's got what it takes after a few more episodes. We all remember how rough the first season of SG-1 was.
Don't get me wrong, I liked it. It's just not the same but I think it'll get better when they start making grand discoveries.

Figure this is a good topic to put this in, anybody know when the comic book is coming out for SG:U? I keep checking the Dynamite Entertainment website and it says pre-order. I figured it would have come out before Stargate Universe premiered.

I liked the Premiere, we will have to see where the show goes and how it progresses.

I really enjoyed it also. Carlyle is an outstanding actor, and it is really a coup for SG to get him on TV. The cast altogether seems pretty outstanding. The premiere was really great I hope they keep it up.

Just watched it, seems like it could be pretty good. A lot of traps they need to avoid (voyager comparisons, etc) but the cast looks good, and it could keep up with the high value the franchise already has.

It needed some more action, it was a little anti climatic for me. I am excited with the previews for the rest of the season, but for the premier I dont think it showed enough of what the show has to offer.

i liked the geek character. I agree it could have used more action but I think they were more concerned with setting up the dynamic of the show then having battles. i'm not sure how long it can work without a bad guy. I get that they'll have character conflicts within the group and "survival is their mission" but eventually you have to have a villain. That being said I enjoyed the cast. There are enough interesting characters. which is the most important thing to me. One thing I did notice last night is Richard Dean Anderson looks like he's aged about 10 years since continuum and that wasn't that long ago.

RDA 's face was soooo fat, i was shocked, Sam still looks good. They are in a different galaxy so I am sure a new enemy will be introduced soon enough.

I must admit im as a stargate fan, I found the new series greatly disappointing..

SciFi did it again, they have taken the "New Battlestar Galatica" Template and copied and pasted it into stargate.

Quickly I figured out, I was not watching stargate but just a remke of battlestar galatica with lose references to stargate....

It was as if Sci Fi had removed the very soul of stargate, perhaps even the essence of stargate to give there new stlye of Sci Fi that already failed one more chance...

You already pissed off the battlestar galatica fans so now your going to kill stargate as well..

I don't mind the characters or there acting, I do not like the look, the feel, the atmosphere, nor the lost innocence that is portrayed...

You know adding baltar to the show should have been the dead giveaway though.. lol

Im going to watch it, but so far I do not see any stargate in stargate...

Cheers, dk3dknight.

I've seen the first 2 episodes, like it so far.

I don't think anyone need's to have seen Stargate or Stargate Atlantis to enjoy this series IMO I think you can pretty much jump in and get enough background info from the pilot to see what it's about.

I am just having a bit of a hard time with the characters thus far. In Stargate Atlantis I was able to pick up a few characters I really like quickly (I don't include Stargate since it was mostly a follow up to the movie and sorry but Richard Dean Anderson rock's ) So far I am having a hard time liking the characters, will give it a bit of time cause the idea behind the series is very interesting IMO

Yeah I have only seen the movie and I am not having a hard time at all picking this up. Is it like bsg? A bit. But I would campare it more to Homer's The Odyssey instead.

Baltar was way cooler headed than Rush.
