Universal Studios Inside Man 2 - Directed by MJ Bassett

Source: Deadline

Quote:
Aml Ameen To Star In ‘Inside Man’ Sequel
by Amanda N'Duka - November 1, 2018 2:15pm

EXCLUSIVE: Aml Ameen (The Maze Runner, Sense8) has been tapped to play Remy, the lead character in Inside Man 2, a follow-up to the 2006 thriller that starred Denzel Washington and was directed by Spike Lee. The sequel hails from Universal 1440 Entertainment, the production entity of Universal Pictures Home Entertainment, and Imagine Entertainment.

MJ Bassett, who has directed episodes for Power, Da Vinci’s Demons, Ash vs. Evil Dead, and Iron Fist, will helm the second installment, which was penned by Brian Brightly.

Released by Universal Pictures, the original had Washington as Detective Keith Frazier, NYPD hostage negotiator who gets involved with a cunning bank robber and heist mastermind (Clive Owen) and a high-powered Manhattan broker (Jodie Foster) in a high-stakes hostage negotiation. It remains Lee’s highest-grossing film, with $88.5 million.

The Inside Man 2 logline: The U.S. Federal Reserve is robbed by a highly organized and cleverly orchestrated team of crooks. With dozens of tourists held hostage during a 10-hour siege, an NYPD hostage negotiator (Ameen) and a federal agent join forces to rescue the hostages and foil the heist.

Ogden Gavanski is producing the pic, which will be released on Netflix as a licensed title and also will be available on other digital platforms.

Ameen was most recently was seen as the lead in Idris Elba’s directorial debut, Yardie, which premiered at Sundance this year. He also set his first feature directing outing with A Night Worth Living.

Ameen is repped by UTA, Independent Talent Group, LINK Entertainment, Bloom Hergott Diemer Rosenthal, and BWR.

I'd be down for this with Lee directing. He's not, so I'm not.

Why is this even called Inside Man 2?

No Spike, no Denzel, no Clive Owen... who cares.

Exactly. Typical "direct-to-Redbox" model of slapping the title of a semi-popular genre film from a decade ago on any unrelated piece of crap.

8MM 2, Open Water 2, American Psycho 2, it'll never end as long as it's still profitable (although why rename a movie Havoc 2 when almost no one's heard of the first one?).

How does a true story about soldiers who don't get to see any combat (Jarhead) turn into a series of generic DTV action flicks? What's next -- Vinnie Jones and Luke Goss in Born on the Fourth of July 2: The Assault?

Sounds like a generic cops-and-robbers movie with the Inside Man name attached to it for marketing purposes. Meh.

But this does remind me that I need to buy the original at some point.

Sounds shit. Love Inside Man though, probably my second favourite of 2006 behind Children of Men.

Dude, they have 5 Scorpion King movies. FIVE! I knew of like 2 and 3 but I didn't know it just went up to #5. Jesus. Who the hell was that interested in those flicks? How is there a profit? How much does that franchise make to be viable enough for 4 direct to home video flicks? I don't understand how that market model still works somehow for low franchises like that.

This.

Inside Man is an often forgotten movie IMO and has always been one of my favourites. Certainly didn't need a sequel. Esp in this manner.

Here's an article about Jarhead 2 and Universal 1440 Entertainment. It's from four years ago, so maybe everything still applies today.

I thought it was just okay. A lot of it I could've done without but it was one of Spike Lee's more decent movies.

Came across this on Netflix when looking for the first one, and when I saw Rhea Seehorn was in it I decided to put it on hoping she could salvage it.

She could not.
