Think the movie equivalent of dad rock. The kind of movies that your father would hail as cinematic achievement. Not all dads think alike, many of whom will have diverse taste in cinema. As derogatory of a term as it sounds just think about what the below poster wrote in another thread on this very forum.

Pale Rider is a MUCH weirder movie tbh. It's not BETTER, but that is a strange movie! What I'd call other "Dad movies" would be things like Lethal Weapon, or Bull Durham, or Field of Dreams, or Midnight Run. The first and four at least are very good (I've never watched Bull Durham myself, and I like Field of Dreams a lot but know a lot of people like to s*** on it), and they've been endlessly replayed on cable for decades, and regular Dads watch them all the time. :P
I don't have anything against the Untouchables, it just is one of those endlessly replayed movies that it seems liked by everyone who watches movies casually. Which doesn't mean it's bad, it's just in that tier of things like Shawshank Redemption where they're VERY mass appeal due to broad, memorable characters, etc. I didn't particularly like it. I will buy it someday just to complete my De Palma collection. I currently only have his thrillers/horror flicks, and then MI1 just cause it came in the set with 3/4 I don't like that one either, but it seems like something I should watch again because it probably has more qualities in it than I noticed. Much like Carlito's Way, which I remember liking but can't remember much of anything else about.

The flip side of the "chick flick" if you want to gender stereotyped.
