Default Masterminds (2016)

Quote:
David Ghantt (Zach Galifianakis) is stuck in the monotony of driving an armored truck day in and day out, so when his work crush lures him into the heist of a lifetime, David's all in. Despite a pack of harebrained bandits and an absurdly flawed plan, David manages to steal $17 million, and promptly hands it over to the gang -- who just as promptly double-cross him. Forced to go on the lam, David must dodge the authorities and a hit man, and try to turn the tables on his untrustworthy comrades.

It might have something to do with the Netflix suit from a while back (in which this was one of the films involved). That or the digital rights ended up with another company as part of the Relativity reorganization.

Of course, if Lionsgate ends up with the whole Relativity library as rumored, such issues would likely change.

How can they remove Kate McKinnon from the BD cover? ... She was the best thing about this movie!

I missed out on this in theatres and want to pick it up but wish it had a digital copy. I hope that changes but if there's only a month until release, I doubt it will. =/

Is this worth a blind buy? Been very skeptical of comedies recently.

Did this wind up getting a digital code with it? I saw someone wanting to buy a code and see that Target's site says it is a blu + dvd + digital combo pack. Best Buy's site doesn't list anything about a digital code.

No, it's not. And especially if you've been skeptical of recent comedies, because this one is really bad.

It's not a great film (it plays itself a bit too safe in places due to the director's religious beliefs, the outtakes contain a lot of edgier takes) but it's certainly more watchable than much of the "let's see how raunchy/misanthropic we can get" formula that's overtaken the comedy genre.

The most interesting part of the film (more than the lead role being written for Jim Carrey, who pulled out to make Dumb and Dumber To) is that the film is based on what was at the time the biggest armored truck robbery in American history. I'm not sure how accurate the film was to the truth (even though the real David Gantt served as technical consultant).

I watched this last night. It seemed like a long SNL sketch so I wasn't surprised to see Lorne Michaels name in the credits. The actors all played their "standard" characters..
[Show spoiler]Ken Marino
was a top billing but was in the movie for no more than 5 minutes which was odd.

I thought this movie was pretty funny, definitely didn't live up to its full potential with it's cast. I agree with buscemi, definitely felt like a long SNL sketch but was entertaining enough and I enjoyed it. The story stayed true to some of the real events obviously most of the parts meant to be comedic or glamorous weren't true but either way I'd say it's worth a watch

I watched it on the plane last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. If you don't take it too seriously, it's funny as Hell.

My cousin bought the DVD at Walmart and it came with DC in HD plus instawatch in SD. I figure this is going to start to be a new thing with the studios (either DVD or DC but not both). Disney has been doing this with alot of their titles the last few years too.

Just saw Masterminds for the first time. This PQ on this Blu was spectacular - very impressive.

The film itself was hilarious! I like stupid comedies, but many of the recent ones are unfunny. But, in this case the movie made me laugh out loud various times throughout - and, that doesn't happen too often.

I know the film was based on a true story, but obviously some/many?! liberties were taken re: the actual storyline. I.e., I can't believe that any criminals were ever THIS stupid - LOL.

For example, it was extremely funny to see David Ghant (Galifianakis)
[Show spoiler]go down to Mexico after committing one of the biggest heists in U.S. history & not taking any precautions re: changing his appearance (shaving his head, dyeing his hair, shaving his beard, etc.) for a long time after he got there...until the "hitman" tried to take him out...What a moron - LOL.

I picked up a copy at Best Buy with slipcover for $10.

Not sure if I'm going to keep it though, might throw it back.

I'm going to leave it in the bag for now.
