Default Max Payne: Unrated - 1/20/09

Based On The Best-Selling, Hard-Hitting Video Game Superstar Mark Wahlberg Headlines The Explosive Action Thriller Taking Action To The Max On DVD & Blu-ray Disc January 20th From Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment

Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray Disc Fully Loaded With Bonus Features Including Exclusive Animated Graphic Novel, Behind-the-Scenes Documentary, Filmmaker Commentary And Digital Copy For Portable Media Players

CENTURY CITY, CA – Feel the Payne on Unrated DVD and Blu-ray! A maverick cop with little regard for the rules – and nothing to lose – investigates a series of mysterious murders that could be tied to the death of his wife and child when MAX PAYNE retaliates to DVD and Blu-ray Disc (BD) January 20th from Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.

A stylized adaptation of the hugely popular fan-favorite video game, Academy AwardÒ nominee Mark Wahlberg (The Departed, Shooter) stars as the title character Max Payne, an obsessive DEA agent who descends into the gritty New York City crime world to avenge the gruesome murders of his family and partner.

As the mystery begins to slowly unravel, Max is forced to battle enemies beyond the natural world and face the demons inside himself in order to ensure that justice is served. Featuring dark, edgy scenes with the action played out like a graphic novel with neo-noir references reminiscent of Sin City, MAX PAYNE was transformed to the screen with stylized visuals by director John Moore (The Omen, Behind Enemy Lines) and features gripping supporting performances from Mila Kunis (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, “That 70’s Show”), Beau Bridges (“Stargate SG-1”), Chris “Ludacris” Bridges (Crash), Chris O’Donnell (Scent of a Woman), Amaury Nolasco (“Prison Break,” Street Kings) and the new “Bond babe” Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace, Hitman).

The MAX PAYNE Special Edition DVD and Blu-ray Disc, both featuring Digital Copy, are highlighted by the Unrated Extended Cut of the film plus the never-before-seen animated graphic novel that delves deeper into Max Payne’s endless vengeance, along with an in-depth production documentary on the making of the film (Part 1 is featured on the Special Edition DVD; Part 2 is only available exclusively on the Blu-ray Disc edition).

The MAX PAYNE single-disc DVD will be available for $29.98 U.S. / $43.48 Canada; the Special Edition DVD with Digital Copy priced at $34.98 U.S. / $45.98 Canada; and the BD version with Digital Copy is available to own for $39.99 U.S. / $ 49.99 Canada.

Synopsis:

Max Payne (Wahlberg) is a maverick cop with little regard for rules and nothing left to lose. Hell-bent on revenge, he’s determined to track down those responsible for the brutal murder of his family, but his obsessive investigation takes him on a nightmarish journey where dark fantasy collides with stark reality. As the mystery deepens, Max is forced to battle enemies beyond the natural world...and face an unthinkable betrayal that will drive him to the edge of his own sanity.

Blu-ray Disc Specs:

The MAX PAYNE BD is presented in widescreen format (2.35:1 aspect ratio) on a 50GB dual-layer disc authored in BD-J with English 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio and French & Spanish 5.1 Dolby Digital, with English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean subtitles. The BD includes all of the above standard-def Special Edition DVD bonus features, plus the following BD-Exclusive elements:

· Picture production featurette – Part 2
· BonusVIEW mode:

This might be a blind buy for me. I like most of Wahlburg's movies, so I' am hoping I will really like this one. Should have descent PQ and hopefully great AQ to enjoy on my new system. OH YEEEAAAHHHH!

I'm not sure if I like this movie or not...

At least worth a rental for eye candy.

Stupid, outrageous pricing for a film that even fans felt was mediocre. I know it won't be the ACTUAL price, but still, to think they will sell well enough to merit that MSRP is absurd.

I liked it. Wahlberg was good and the action was pretty cool expect for the toned down gore level considering it was PG-13. I'm going to buy it most likely, it wasn't the greatest but it was a solid thriller and if you liked the game, you will probably enjoy the movie.

To add to this, the movie was very awful.

I may be exaggerating a bit, but I swear, I don't remember any gunshots in this movie until it was like 3/4 over. Wasn't the game a third person shooter?

I would definitely not reccomend blind buying this title. You may end up liking it, but the odds are not in favor of that happening.

Side note, I do usually like Whalberg

The movie could have been a good solid action flick but it felt very rough and unfinished like there was a lot left on the cutting room floor that should have been added in (and was probably left out due to the studio wanting a 90 minute flick )

Fox is famous for not sending out screener copies until after the movie is released.

I'll pick it up. I liked the games, and this uncut version is supposed to be more faithful to the games.
