Who's Excited?

With our Shaw Bros line now fully established we are spreading into new Asian territory with 88 ASIA!!!

Share your thoughts, comments, suggestions here. we are always watching

First up GIFTED

Director Juhn Jai-hong (who reached critical acclaim and feminist approval with 2008's shattering BEAUTIFUL) produced another instant classic with 2014's riveting and shocking GIFTED. In this tense thriller an everyday Joe, laid off from his job, finds a freelance gig that involves nothing in the way of pay but plenty in the way of murderous pleasure! A tense and twisted tale of life and death in modern South Korea - 88 Films is proud to give this underseen (at least in the West) story of shock and awe an HD British debut!
How much #hallyu can you take?

Always nice to hear about new lines and different films.

By the looks of the picture this has the UK rating on it, so is this just a specialized line still distributed from the UK? Region B?

Or is this something you are distributing from Asia and will be Region A?

I really like ordering the Korean releases with the fancy packaging and slipboxes art cards, books etc.., will that be a focus for your new line as well or will they be more standard cases?

My biggest negative when ordering Asian releases is that most if not all of the special features neglect English subs. I live in the US and we see a lot of the Well Go releases that generally have minimal if any features at all. I figure there is a fine line to whether features are worth paying for and having them translated. I can't speak for others in the sub but I know I would be more inclined to buy a version that has features I can watch.

I'm sure others here will have a bunch of inquiries as well

Thanks for coming to the forum and bringing us some new Korean films!!

Not enough Korean cinema on BD in the UK, this is most welcome.

This is a UK distributor, bruh. I think most/all of their releases are Region B locked. See their line of Shaw Bros. films for an idea: https://88-films.myshopify.com/colle...sia-collection

I've been checking out some of the Shaw Bros films they've released recently, since it's cool to see a Western company releasing so many Asian rarities – they've released a lot of really damn fun, campy movies.

When I read the OP I imagined this was an older film contemporary with their Shaw Bros films (a la Mondo Macabre's "Suddenly in the Dark"), but this is a 2014 Korean thriller unreleased in the west – interesting! Will definitely have to check it out.

Always great to see more undiscovered Asian films on blu!

I assume that's what it is, but more information is always better.

Why can't your Shaw Titles be REGION FREE?

UK label yes but thought being a bit cheeky and posting in the Asia section as there are loads of UK dudes post here posting away and there is not enough Korean titles out over here. the few that do come out (like the recent Hunters Tale and Age of Shadows) just don't get enough exposure. The Tiger even got into supermarkets over here but sales look not so good...
Anyway a few more announcements coming up.
UK certs on the sleeves but these will have reverse art with Korean poster/titles if possible and no cert logos Region locked yes but this is contractual

88 Films has joined the #hallyu trend! A whole continent was glued to the small screen when the hit South Korean television series IRIS made its prime time premiere! And now British viewers can experience the 2010 motion picture adaptation of this balls-to-the-wall action thriller in beautiful HD!! Featuring performances from Seoul superstars Lee Byung-hun (A BITTERSWEET LIFE), Jung Joon-ho (ANOTHER PUBLIC ENEMY) and T. O. P (the sex symbol rapper from Kpop chart toppers Big Bang), this rough edged tale of North vs. South military stand offs and a secret agency of bad ass license-to-kill fighters who have Kim Jong-un quaking is timely and terrific. As we all face nuclear annihilation in the Trump/ Pyongyang showdown at least enjoy the heart thumping fun of IRIS before the world comes to a crippling conclusion!
Only from 88 Films - the UK's truly international cult label!

Enjoying our #hallyu announcements? Love South Korean film? We are not stopping yet!
2014's SEA FOG (HAEMOO) is one of the Korean wave's most potent stories and visually arresting efforts. Telling of an illegal immigrant operation in South Korea, focused on bringing 30 mainland Chinese star-watchers to the hustle and bustle of Busan and Seoul, which ends in terrifying tragedy, SEA FOG is a tense thriller and a blistering viewing experience. Produced by the legendary Bong Joon-ho (THE HOST) and with a cast that includes the great Kim Yoon-seok (THE CHASER) and K-pop icon Park Yoo-chun (formerly of TVXQ), 88 Films is proud to bring the contemporary tragedy of SEA FOG to UK BluRay for the very first time!

One of the greatest modern horror films of all time and one of the finest achievements in contemporary Korean cinema is back on Blu thanks to 88 Films! Pilsung Yim's masterful adult fairly tale HANSEL AND GRETEL (2007) is one of the creepiest and most imaginative nightmares of modern Asian cinema and a terrifyingly effective adaptation of an old European fairy tale favourite. 88 Films is proud to present a killer special edition of this baroque and picturesque art-terror text book in spine tingling shocks!!

Excellent. The Hong Kong release is friggin' 50Hz. I assume this won't be.

I won't be buying Hansel & Gretel, but I'll be buying everything else. When can I buy them?
