All 5 of their collaborations are out on bluray, but this is not a poll of the film's transfer onto high-def...but rather how you would rate the movies in order of most enjoyable to least enjoyable. Here are mine, with minor comments on each film:
1) Red River --> Probably one of the finest westerns of the 20th century 2) El Dorado --> A great mix of action and comedy, with a wonderful supporting cast 3) Rio Bravo --> Excellent character studies of the main players, however would have been a better film at 2/3 it's running time. Hawks lets certain scenes linger on for too long, almost to the point of boredom 4) Rio Lobo --> Starts off with a terrific scene of a train of northern troopers getting attacked by bees thrown on by the southern troops. Kinda runs downhill after the civil war scenes are over, but still enjoyable 5) Hatari! --> Wonderful scenes of capturing animals in Africa for zoos around the world, but the plot is non-existent. I mean really...for a 2 and 1/2 hour film, it is amazing how little plot is happening |
