I'm hearing a lot of people say none of this was gameplay and it was all CGI/FMV?

I'm sure I saw the inventory being scrolled through in the bottom left corner at some points through the video!

I'm pretty sure it is CGI, but I'd love to be wrong

Yeah after viewing it a few more times it does seem to be CGI

Not gonna lie, I was so hoping it was a Dark Souls/Demons Souls game, but the style of the dragon made me know it wasn't.

If that really was real time game play (doubtful) that is freaking impressive.

Enclosed environment allowing super high quality assets + strong motion blur enhancing good animation = I don't see why most of this shouldn't be obtainable.

The combat parts are animated like a cutscene so the fake gameplay HUD isn't fooling anyone but apart from that it's only some of the fire-breathing effects that look a world apart from what we've seen before, even on PC.

But PC developers haven't properly explored high-end, artistically constructed physics-driven particle effects. Most of the Nvidia PhysX effects just look dropped in from game to game.

Would a Mod be so kind as to move the thread to the PS4 section please?

And in other news Capcom have detailed the tech behind this demo.

Capcom’s Deep Down is an Actual Game, Can’t Say if Exclusive or Not; More info on Panta Rhei Shared

Quote:

The Deep Down demo at the presentation of the PS4 left a lot of questions both on the game and on the Panta Rhei engine itself. Some of those questions were answered by Capcom’s Deputy General Manager of Technology Research and Development Masaru Ijuin and by Programmers Daisuke Shimizu and Hitoshi Mishima as part of a very extensive interview on the Japanese website Game Watch.

First of all, we learn that Deep Down isn’t just a tech demo, but it’s an actual game that’s being developed in parallel with the engine (while the title isn’t final). It’s not yet disclosed if it’ll be exclusive to PS4 or actually multiplatform.

The development of Panta Rhei started in the summer of 2011, to address problems with Capcom’s proprietary engine MT Framework that led to the deterioration of development efficiency, and also because the old engine wouldn’t be able to efficiently handle the “huge assets” that next generation games will involve.

The engine is focused on ease of development, but doesn’t cut corners with visual fidelity, in order to attract the widest possible variety of players.

The Deep Down demo ran in real time at the PS4 presentation and displayed between 10 and 20 million polygons per frame. It had a variable frame rate above 30 frames per second and a total texture capacity of 2 GB. It ran 30 different shaders at the same time.

The demo can run on a PC with an NVIDIA Geforce GTX 570, 8 GB of RAM, and an Intel Core i7 CPU. The development machines used at Capcom have Geforce GTX 680 and GTX 590 GPUs.

The peak performance of the PS4 is lower than that of an high end PC theoretically, but due to the ease of development and to the streamlined architecture there are areas in which it can be superior. The same can be said about the Xbox One, which has a similar architecture and potential.

The engine can use Tassellation and in certain areas Approximating Catmull-Clark Subdivision Surfaces, that is unfortunately too heavy to be used systematically for every element . The Deep Down demo used Dynamic Level of Detail (DLOD) in combination with Tassellation to avoid pop-in. Thanks to the PS4′s high memory capacity it’s possible to achieve both stable performance and avoiding pop-in with LOD.

The rendering pipeline has been redesigned. It can use Tile Based Deferred Rendering combined with Forward Rendering for special and semi transparent materials. Tile Based Deferred Rendering can grant very high performance but Forward rendering can be used when you want to use the Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (a four-dimensional function that defines how light is reflected at an opaque surface) or render translucent materials.

Rendering of materials is done by combining a diffuse map, a specular map, a normal map and a roughness map.

Shimizu-san tried to implement the indirect lightning technology named Sparse Voxel Octree Based Real-Time Global Illumination (SVO-GI) for the flames of the dragon, however the process was rather heavy on the resources, so he decided to take advantage of simpler Voxel Cone Tracing for the Deep Down demo.

It’s possible to use Partially Resident textures both on PS4 and Xbox One. It’s the same technology as the Mega Texture used in Rage by id Software and the DirectX 11.2 Tiled Resources technology flaunted by Microsoft at BUILD 2013 is pretty exactly that. Panta Rhei Can do it as well.

That’s quite a lot of information for one day of work, isn’t it? It’ll be interesting to see further developments, and to learn if Deep Down will be exclusive or multiplatform. My money is on multiplatform, but I’m ready to be proven wrong. If you live under a rock and missed the demo, you can check it out below.

Deep Down is being developed by Capcom Online Games and is to be showcased at TGS . The RPG was initially announced for PS4 back in February and it has received a new trailer.

The clip was published over on the official*Deep Down site, and gives a glimpse of vicious ghouls and creatures.Note that the URL also reads “PC”, suggesting that the game could hit both PS4 and PC at launch.

If it's cross platform online PS4-PC that would explain why there's no Xbone version announced.

Meh. At least it's a 3rd party exclusive. Something that's been lacking this gen.

I don't think it's been confirmed as an exclusive yet.

Aye.
although, if multiplat, I wonder why they would keep that undercover?
It's not like a "hey, we have that too!" from MS at GC will really wow the crowd.

Wonder if Capcom might still be in negotiations with Sony regarding this title...

Might be a console exclusive whilst the PC gets it too. Strange that they never show the MS or XBone logo in the trailer.

Deep Down is a PlayStation 4 exclusive

Deep Down, the forthcoming Capcom RPG unveiled during Sony's PlayStation 4 reveal, will be exclusive to that platform.

The news comes via Capcom producer Yoshinori Ono, who confirmed the title's exclusivity on Twitter.

deep down on PS4. we dont have it for X1. RT @SkovichDaKid Will Deep Down be coming to Xbox One?
5:14 AM - 7 Sep 2013
Capcom is set to reveal more about Deep Down at Tokyo Game Show later this month. The online RPG was first unveiled during Sony's PlayStation 4 reveal event in February.

The company clarified in June that Deep Down has no connection with Capcom's 2012 RPG Dragon's Dogma, though little else is known about the game thus far. It's being developed on a new engine title Panta Rhei, which has been described as "the next evolutionary step from the MT Framework."

A new trailer was unveiled last month showing a montage of monsters in a subterranean environment.

Sony is set to showcase over 50 PlayStation games at the Toyko Game Show, which runs from September 19 to 22. In the meantime, the company will livestream a translated version of its Japanese PlayStation press conference later today at 7am BST / 2am ET, and 4pm in Australia.

Deep Down has been discussed for PS4 by Capcom’s Yoshinori Ono at a Sony event in Japan this morning. Despite its grim, almost medieval appearance, it’s actually set in the future.

Tweeting the event as it happened, Eurogamer reports that Deep Down is indeed set in 2094 and takes place in New York. The idea is that must read mysteries to solve an over-arching crime.

While Ono confirmed the game will be explained in greater detail at TGS, he teased that the online title would feature random monsters and procedurally generated dungeons. Online multiplayer includes up to four players.

A second medieval period in New York? Am I the only one who immediately thought of this?

Gameplay and graphics look really good. Also liking the concept behind this one and can't wait for the game to release.
