I finally went and got an All Region Player.
I have begun crafting my wishlist of Region B and C Blu's. I tend to favor genre stuff... horror and sci fi. But I'm curious, what are your favorite imports from across the pond? What 4 or 5 Blu's from outside the US really shine and are must-own titles? I'd love to hear some opinions. So far I'm looking at Several Vincent Price Arrow titles Anolis Hammer films Some Pam Grier from Arrow What are some of your favorites that you'd recommend to a new all region player owner? |

Also, you should look at Caps-a-Holic.com, DVDCompare.net, this forum, and a few other places for the best imports. Or you're similar to me where certain titles I want specific differing releases of since I consider the movie very worthwhile. More than one so I tend to narrow it down. |

My must-haves:
Agora (France): Was never released in any English-friendly zone that I can see. Which is a shame--I thought the movie was quite evocative. Looks/sounds good on Blu-Ray. The Burbs (UK): The Arrow edition has great quality, a crap ton of extras, and two cuts of the movie. US version has jack squat. I always loved the film, it's a no-brainer. The Crow Sequels (UK): Seems really hard to find Salvation anywhere, but the others are available in the US. If you want all these films (like I do, because I found them all enjoyable), you may want to hunt down the double-feature that has the second and third films. I believe the second film is the same as the US director's cut, which has the better quality. Crying Freeman (France): For some reason I don't think this film has ever hit home video in the US, and it sounds like it never will. I thought this Blu-Ray looks spectacular, way better than I could hope for. Plenty of extras as I recall too. The movie itself won't tide anybody over with performances or writing, but the action scenes are phenomenal. Eden Lake (UK): This movie always kinda ticked me off, but that's what makes it great. ![]() Pi (UK): Strange and fascinating film with a heck of a visual style. Haven't viewed my copy yet, but I do believe it's graded on the site with adequate quality and some good extras. Strange Days (German): A very unique sci-fi film--as a genre fan, I had to have it. Looks and sounds darn near perfect on Blu-Ray, and extras are put on their own disc. Tetsuo: The Iron Man / Tetsuo: Body Hammer (UK): These movies are aggravating, but they have a heck of a style. It's like David Lynch on speed. Looks and sounds as good as it can on Blu-Ray. Thirst (UK): I found this film fascinating. Looks and sounds good on Blu-Ray. One I'd recommend with caution is Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai from Germany. I find the film fascinating and highly nuanced. It looks and sounds great on Blu-Ray. BUT, it has forced subs, and foreign dialogue will not be translated to English. Slight disappointment for an otherwise solid disc. Another one to be cautious about is Dancer in the Dark from Germany. The movie was filmed with SD camcorders, and will never look particularly good on Blu-Ray. Lots of others I have are now available in the US or in region-free areas. I've held on to some for packaging, quality, extras, and other reasons. As other mentioned, Arrow, BFI, and Eureka are good labels to look into. Koch Media seems to do okay too. Take caution with TF1 from France, the movies I've seen from them all had forced subs. |

I bought it from Umbrella Entertainment (Australia) a few years back. It's really good. Here's a link:
https://www.umbrellaent.com.au/movie...r-blu-ray.html I bought for US $20 but it looks like it's on sale. That's a crazy good deal. |

Unfortunately, not at this time. The Japanese bd is such a great improvement over the old Anchor Bay dvd even without the cabin footage. It's definitely worth getting until the unedited version arrives (from someone). Last edited by RalphoR; 02-03-2017 at 04:50 AM. |

These aren't horror or sci-fi. But I bought an all-region player specifically for last year's UK releases of Kurosawa's Ran and Kobayashi's The Human Condition Trilogy.
