Default Press conference in two months to discuss expansion of PLAYSTATION Network

Sony's challenge for 2008: Take on software companies

Quote:
Sony has shored up the problems in its electronics, and will concentrate in 2008 on bringing more video content to its devices and improving its software, said CEO Sir Howard Stringer.

"We will see if we can enter the battle against the software companies. This is probably the year we need to demonstrate that," Stringer said during a meeting with reporters at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas Monday morning.

One of the first examples of this strategy will be an expansion of the PlayStation Network. The network now is mostly used by gamers. Sony wants to turn it into a platform to deliver video, too. Sony will hold a press conference in two months to discuss changes to the PlayStation 3.
Tada!

i don't see a Problem with the PSN, i don't see how Xbox Live is any better, I prefer the online Portion of the PS3, because it's a full internet browser! Cant eh xbox find your favourite websites? The playstation store...I don't see any problems with it....What's everybody complaining about?

OOH! If they want to improve it! Music Videos! and Episodes of TV shows! Music Videos for Free, and TV shows Cheap or Free. Tho if they want to charge us for anything, we really need to get those cards, because I would love to get some PSN games, and especially some old Playstation Games

That's (part) of the idea I'd imagine.

How about doing something to make download times faster. I would pay a service fee like xbox live if it would mean faster downloads.

Xbox live does a few things better, although i do not like the interface of live AT ALL. Everything is burried under layers and layers of crap. I jumped on the 360 today, saw my friends list, and my buddy was playing Gears of War online. I popped the game in, and then went to my buddys profile, clicked "Join Session" and in 1 minute, i was playing in the exact match he was. That kind of ability is far off on the ps3 sadly. Otherwise, i highly prefer the PS3 interface. Oh, and downloads are about 50x faster on the 360 then the PS3.

My problem with the PSN store is that the updates usually suck. Only a few things added. For example, I would love to watch the latest movie trailers in High Def on a big screen instead of my computer but by the time the PSN store puts them up I will have seen it a 100 times on my computer and won't really care to download it on my PS3. So I would hope whomever is in charge will start working on these little things soon.

For free, I will take it the way it is. I do not want to start paying for my online gaming. That is a huge reason why I purchased the PS3. I do not mind the long downloads now that we can push the download into the background.

If they want to make the navigation easier, go for it. The store is getting very full and it does become difficult to find something if you do not look in the correct place.

For it being free the PSN is pretty damn good. Outside of Thursday evening I don't notice any real slow downloads. It probably happens then because the servers are getting slammed with people downloading off the store.

The lack of an in-game XMB, specifically being able to message people in the game has aggravated me since day 1, but I think they'll get the in-game XMB out at some point this year.

I am glad to see that games on the PS3 are starting to incorporate custom soundtracks. High Velocity Bowling and another game has it. But, it will be in MLB 08 the show as well, which brings me great joy. It could be the best baseball game ever, overtaking MVP Baseball 05.
