Default Star Wars The Digital Collection

iTunes has just updated the six films with a combination of most of the stuff from the 2-Disc DVD special editions for the Prequels and some of the features from the Blu Saga Box set. They've added the commentaries for each film. They've also added 3 previews for THE FORCE AWAKENS (They are all the same across the six films).

I wish I'd gotten this when it was $89.99.

Just wait. It will drop in price, and within the next two months. I guarantee it! Which means nothing, because I have no reputation to back it up with, but, you know, still...

It's only $10 more... $99.99 is still better than $119.94 (the price of all six individually).

Any chance there will ever be a BD set with DCs? I am holding out until Episode 7 is released on BD to see what happens then. I have the original release of the 6 movie set on BD already.

I mean, I never say never, but they did JUST release a new saga boxed set a week ago. So I wouldn't look for them to release another set after seven comes out on blu-Ray. Maybe after all three of the new trilogy are released...

I guess there is a copyright problem with the first movie still belonging to Fox so Disney cannot release a box set completely remade by Disney yet.

Really appreciate that you've mentioned this. I find it often frustrating that you can't actually see what all the extras are before purchase. I've been holding out for more extras and confirmation they're adding more may be the thing which convinces me to buy. Thank you.

It's Disney... so IF it drops (and that is a big IF) it will go down to something like 85 bucks.

Not a problem. I'm on iTunes daily just looking to see what's been updated.

This sums it up nicely.

Because Lucasfilm/Disney retained the digital distribution and TV rights to the Star Wars films (except A New Hope), it's unlikely the Steelbooks will have digital copies either. And I doubt Fox will include a digital copy for A New Hope (the only film that Fox has the digital distribution rights to).

Even if FOX retains the rights to A New Hope, they can still put digital copies in with the others

It's currently $89.99 on Google Play, and I believe it is DMA, so will transfer to iTunes, Vudu & Amazon (if linked).

Only 5 of the 6. A New Hope is UV, not DMA. Google Play is not a UV provider so that title would be stuck in Google Play indefinitely.

The reason I didn't get it when it was first released with "limited time" pricing was because I was saving vudu credits to have it port over. I eventually realized episode 4 wouldn't port over and my that time the limited pricing was done.

One thing I've never had clarified re: iTunes extras...

Let's say you buy a movie on 1/1/15. It included iTunes extras. 3 months (or however long), later they add more extras. Do you get the new extras that they've just added, or do you only get those if you buy the movie AFTER they've been added.

You get them automatically whenever they update a film's iTunes Extras.

Lucasfilm/Disney controls the digital distribution rights to the rest of the Star Wars films made after A New Hope, so Fox can't put in Digital Copies of the rest of the trilogy.

Its likely Lucasfilm has the power to direct how Fox handles the Star Wars Home Entertainment releases, so it's possible Lucasfilm may object to a digital copy for A New Hope being bundled with the physical releases.

Just because Fox has the distribution rights doesn't mean it can do everything (such as package Star Wars films with other Fox films and properties, it's unlikely Fox can do that).

The fact that single film BD releases of the Star Wars films hasn't been released till now (with the Steelbooks) also indicates that Lucasfilm likely has some power over how its films are released.

This is $89.99 on iTunes. Seems like a good set of extras. I'm finding it tough to resist.
