United Kingdom Jurassic Park Trilogy (May 2015)

I just noticed that the Jurassic Park Ultimate Trilogy is getting another release in May 2015, but the only difference I can see is the new gold cover and a new £30 RRP. Is this just a horrible attempt at a cash grab before JW comes out? Links below.

Original - been out forever, only £10

New - May 2015, £30...

Both sets have UV copies as well. Any ideas?

Gotta be new transfers/restorations. No way would they release the same crap as before. Would they?

Can't imagine they're new transfers. Universal aren't known for that sort of thing. (At least without marketing them as new transfers.)

My money's definitely on the same stuff, but different packaging and offering UV codes. Cash grab for the pre-release of World.

People would be thrilled if Jurassic Park had a new 2D transfer that matched the 3D one before it was tinkered with but I doubt that would happen. I think the new set will be just tie-in for the new movie and the opportunity to charge twice the price, I saw someone pay £50 for the Planet of the Apes box set recently and I mentioned to the lady that the old set and the new movie would cost half as much and she wasn't interested! So there are people out there that will buy this new set (and pay more) blindly!

Fourth or fifth time this has been released...my guess is the new artwork. Maybe some extras but I don't really see them making anything new for these films...

Oh you can count on them being the exact same discs that have been re-released 3-4 times already, they are just doing it again to try and cash in on JW.

The US is also getting a re-release in May with the same cover art but their's is a digibook with JP 3D and space for Jurassic World.

It'll be cheaper to just wait a little while longer, and get the inevitable quadrilogy boxset...

That's why I don't buy boxsets of anything - there's always another film. A prime example is the Bond 50 box set, it didn't even come with Skyfall.

The only boxsets I'll buy are the ones that are definitely finished, like The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Yup, new artwork & cashing in on the new movie. You can't blame Universal for trying, they're not a charity. If people pay £30 instead of £10, more fool them.

But it did have a space for Skyfall, which is exactly where my disc went, and the re-release featured it too, a nice collection marking 50 years of Bond, as opposed to calling it "Complete Bond" or something, that would've been annoying. Right there with you on that point though! The Complete Star Wars Saga will bug me in the end :P

I bet buyers of the old boxset swore to high heaven when Episode 7 was announced, lol.

Didn't even cross my mind, paid a good price for the films I wanted and don't care what comes out later as it can just go along side it.

Probably a repackage but it would be amazing if the first film had a new transfer sourced from the new 4K master.

This is Universal though so I wouldn't hold my breath.

Yes but all the special effects shots would have been scanned at 2k (maybe even 1k), so you wouldn't gain anything giving the resulting negative a 4K scan (not on the special shots anyway). That's not to say that a new scan wouldn't look a lot better, as scanning seems to be improving all the time. I personally don't rate the franchise at all, & won't be re-watching it anytime soon.

Well there are only 6 minutes of CG in Jurassic Park, the other 2 hours of the film was shot on 35mm so all that would benefit from a new scan especially when the current release is based on a master created for the first DVD release back in 2001

Jurassic Park already has a 4K scan, we just need an unmolested 2D Blu-ray release. The effects were done in 2K. A new BD would be an improvement over the old one if done properly but Universal, been Universal ...

The old boxset is listed as "The Complete Saga", which it isn't anymore, due to Disney having half a dozen new SW films in the making.
To have something in a collection which is no longer "complete", is irritating for anyone with slight OCD, hence the "swearing to high heaven" remark.

Anymore jokes you want me to explain to you?
