Well, technically MGM/Fox will be releasing the Blu-ray, it's just that Walmart will be the only retailer selling it.

And at 10 bucks with $5 Vudu credit, what a deal! Can't wait.

Been waiting for this release to Blu-Ray for quite some time - 70mm Ultra Panavision/Cinerama release should look fantastic on Blu-Ray - hope it was treated with TLC.

someone who had seen the MGM-HD airing of the film stated it looked great.

ordered mine. It looks like from what I could tell from ordering from Walmart.com is that's available online purchase only (i.e, not in stores)

My dad and I love the movie. Will be picking it up provided that the transfer is good.

They list pre-orders that way. After release date it's available in stores, and free site to store shipping also becomes available. I'll do site to store if my closest Walmart doesn't have it on release day.

oh okay, there's no Walmart remotely near me, so the P&H is far better than wasting gas money to get to the nearest store

Just picked this up. It's the 159 minute cut with an aspect ratio of 2.55.1

It has extended scenes, the theatrical trailer, the trailer for the 1970 re-release and the documentary " Something A Little Less Serious "

I haven't popped it in yet to see how it looks but I will report back when I do.

Excellent! That means it has everything which was on the DVD - which I can now get rid of.

I'll stick with my 188 minute cut for a while, I think....

Nnnooo!! I hope thats a misprint or a direct copy of the dvd cover specs. The Mgm Hd presentation was the full 2.76:1(or thereabouts) and quite gorgeous. Please don,t say they have used the old dvd master for this or cropped the Mgm Hd master.

Anyone who's seen it yet confirm either way?.

I'm going to pick up one this afternoon. You just about can't go wrong for
$10. The DVD costs more than that on Amazon. It'll probably be a good transfer too. The Big Country transfer was a pleasant surprise. Not spectacular clarity, but well defined for a movie of its age.

I dont have this on dvd, so for $10.00, it's worth it in ANY ratio, but I do hope it's the original and not some cropped version.

To what I understand, 2.55.1 is the closest that the film has gotten to its original 2.75.1 aspect ratio on home video.

I don't consider this a bad thing necessarily as even when then film played normal 35mm theatres back in the day it played at 2.35.1

2.35.1 is the aspect ratio is what was on the original dvd, so I don't necessarily mind 2.55.1

As I said the Mgm Hd transfer is definitely the full 2.76:1 and a beautiful print so there is no excuse why the Bluray should be any different, proof in the following link:

http://www.cineramahistory.com/iammmmwhddvd.htm

Why would they use an old dvd master when this is readily available to them, as I said hopefully the cover specs are incorrect.

The MgmHd transfer was definitely 2.76:1, have it capped myself. There is much more information on all 4 sides compared to the Dvd 2.55:1 and quite gorgeous it looks to.
Surely Mgm wouldn't use the same old dvd master when they freely have this print available. Hoping its just incorrect specs on cover.
